I kinda like this idea (so a big fat YES), there should be some restrictions to it, like this would be only for 8 player groups or some kind of clan war (personally i would NOT play this mode with random team). Also rewards should be something like "winner takes all"

Seems nice at first glance but as Cbill income is as it is now It'll be 16h grinding to get a mech then loosing it 50% and even if you win you won't get profit for salvage.
Such a mode would encourage playing like an ***, not wanting to engage, hiding behind teammates and powering down in secluded areas when its not going to well.

I was thinking that a hardcore mode would be weapons doing a lot of dmg, less armor and such.

maybe just for hardcore clan wars or something

the only big problem for me is that you suggest that the spoils go to the one that survives. I think thats the biggest drawback. I'm not gonna play 100% just so some 'lazy' team member is a real wiseguy and stays waaaaay back and enters the fray when everybodys critical.

The thing that would work it would be that the team leader would give out winning in hardcore mode. It would be a nice way to help out new clan members and people would sort it out themselves. Everybody playing their fullest so that they win.

Such a hardcore mode would work, and I would gladly grind a hunchie to compete

Crazy. I thought there'd be more people into this. I'd totally wager my mech for a chance to win a couple million in parts.

A couple million cbills for a win is only saved time, buying a new mech with MC means losing money -> bad game mode.

I vote for "No thanks. no well-thought-out suggestion"

I like the idea of only having one mech to win a great prize at a high price.
Why not make it a high entrance fee (5 million cbills, 10 people enter thats 50mil for winner), tornament style where you don't repair/rearm between matches or only repair/rearm at certain stages (semi-finals or finals so it isn't all energy weapons). With solo and team catigories (2vs2, 4vs4, 8v8 etc).
Teamates on teams that win still get a cut even if they are destroyed.
It would cut down on greifing as you'd have to pay the entrance fee.
And soloer's like myself could still participate.

Just maby evry player puts i. 1 mill cbil
You get the same concept,
Butwhitout people raging that they lose there hard earnee mechs

I would love to bet some cbills...
Hardcore (1vs1 arena) in 5 classes >
500'000 cb
1'000'000 cb
2'500'000 cb
5'000'000 cb
Mech (Light vs Light, Medium vs. Medium etc.)

Should be interessting for anyone who wants to play for the money and for the insane guys that wanna win a mech with the risk of losing it

Edit:
To bet your mech you would require an empty mech-bay, thats something that everyone could effort. Maybe the devs mention to make the first mech-bay available for CB

I think there should be a hardcore gameplay mode that plays for keeps. That is, if your mech is put out of commission or you eject/surrender, you lose it forever and whatever is salvageable is awarded to the winning team.

Salvage is then divvied among the remaining members of the winning team, with the most valuable components/ammo/chassis awarded to those that ranked the highest and the least valuable awarded to those that ranked the lowest.

If you are on the winning team and died, you keep your mech but get cut out of the salvage rights and must pay for repairs as usual.

Obviously, trial mechs could not be used.

Anyone see any potential for abuse with this?

...or does it just sound freakin' awesome?

Seriously... this is THE single worst suggestion I have ever read on these forums. What a complete idea FAIL. Not only does it not sound fun... but it's ridiculously impractical on so many levels.

It would NOT be profitable. Winning team would demolish the losing team's mechs.

Being on the winning team and losing your mech gets you cut out of the salvaged parts?!?!? Sooooo mechs going into battle are the big losers. Mechs who snipe are the big winners?! 0.0

Joining a game where somebody on your team has a cheap crappy commando while you have an expensive Atlas is fair HOW???

Somebody who gets 4 kills 7 assists and dies gets cut out while someone who guards the base and goes AFK to get some chips can get cut in if the team wins???

This idea is unbelievably bad. The reasons flow like Niagra Falls.

This, on the other hand, is a good idea. You should post this suggestion in a new thread so as not to confuse it with the original horrible idea.

This would be like an ARENA mode. And it would be awesome - 1 on 1... but I can imagine some abuse if regular maps are used. Arena maps should be seperate, smaller, like in a dome with a bunch of junk and varying terrain. Also - stats should be recorded so people who have a high win percentage are pitted against other veterans instead of noobs. Perhaps challenges can be opened, with the challenger choosing the opponent criteria - whether its restricted or unrestricted. That way, whoever accepts the challenge can know what they're getting. Also, there should be 3 rounds per match, or at least a round option.

Later, maybe there could be 2v2 and 3v3 arena matches.

k. I like this idea. But doubt it will be implemented.

<sarcasm>MWO should be EVE Online - lose a match, lose your mech! </sarcasm>

The problem with this model is that there's no PVE aspect of the game, so the only thing you can do is risk your mech. That said, I do think PGI needs to add a PVE aspect and make mech loss a reality.

Not true. A typical salvage haul would yield something like this:

Highest Ranking Player

Posted Image

Average Ranking Player

Posted Image

Lowest Ranking Player

Posted Image

As you can see, that's nothing to scoff at. In most circumstance the yield will be even higher than this, because the charts above were made under the assumption that each team member survived. It wouldn;t be uncommon for some players to receive more than one mech chassis as a salvage yield. For some players, like myself, this type of reward would be well worth the risk of having to spend 50% of their mech's base cost to rebuild it.

A lot of these responders don't really understand what you are saying. As if you were saying that all players are just jumping into the pink slip pool you suggest. Obviously you are talking about an optional mode that would likely only be utilized by practiced merc groups against one another.

Haha, have you ever played a battlemech mux? Besides 3065 (a "sim" site) and some newer ones with respawn, EVERY MUX played like this hardcore mode you suggest. Every battle was for keeps (and salvage ops could turn into multi-hour long battles to hold the field to recover the fixables). The pressure was enormous. Your faction grinded (captured bases) for days to earn a few million c-bills to buy reinforcement mechs which you can lose in 5 minutes of stupidity or one typoed jump command. Only the vets were trusted with valuable mechs. You know you were good when you got to ride a griffin or ostsol. And a 10 to 1 kdr meant you were god.

It's a good idea. I posted something similar a while back. It also plays into the economy model I proposed. (see sig)

We should even take it to the point where you need to replace (not repair) damaged actuators, sensors, etc and get those via salvage.

I'd personally be all over this. I want more a realistic simulation...something captures the vibe of the Inner Sphere during this time.
