I've been reading so much of all this groups vs groups vs pugs and how to tweak it so it works. I know it's an important aspect of matching but surely not all of it.

Isn't anybody talking about matching based on player experience? The more a player has been out there the better he gets, at least generally. So why not base the matching also on the amount of matches played by the player and perhaps secondarily on kill/death ratio.

Player experience plays a much bigger role in the outcome of a battle than the simple tonnage. Pitted 1:1 against each other, I'm pretty sure an experienced player can in most cases beat a beginner, no matter what his tonnage or weapon configuration might be compared to the other. This is because the experienced player knows how to move, how to aim at moving targets, where to fight and where not to fight, and so on.

I believe pitting two groups of relatively same experience rather than exactly same tonnage would be in most cases more meaningful. I'm not saying pitting a team of lights against assaults would be a good idea, just that it's not only about the tonnage.
