This thread will be buried under several hundred ECM balance threads in about 30 seconds, but I am interested as to what kind of (approximate) timescales we are looking at with MW:O ?
Is there a rough eta for release date? How long can they stay in beta for(while taking RL $$)
At the current rate of new mechs arriving and the number that appear planned, and also taking into account how few maps there are and things like faction warfare and balance, it doesn't feel as though it could be any time soon.
Is there any official word ?

for ever, given that they already stated no data wipes and cash shop is up the game will be beta until it dies.

WoT,t hat is the closest game ever made to MWO, so much that MWO feels like a direct copy of the concept, stayed on open beta charging $ for more than half a year. BUT the difference is that peopel woudl receive 250 godl (the equivalent of MC) evcery week. Basically a free mech bay worth of MC so that peopel woudl get the taste of things and want them MOOOORE....

Short answer: Forever.
As long as people keep playing and paying, they can keep working on improving the game. Then the improvements hopefully keep bring in more players, and bringing back old ones. Whether they call it beta or not is immaterial. It is the perception of the player base that matters.

Last I recall the timescale has always been said to be 1:1 and that official release will be the start of Clan Invasion.

I have participated in beta tests for many games before, but they always go live within a couple of months.
I've been here since the open beta began, but it feels like we have a long long way to go before it is ready.
I have to wonder about the ethics of selling things to people for real money when the finished product is not only a long way off, and there is no guarantee of success.
Beta testing is used to fine tune game mechanics and iron out bugs, not to start selling a product long before it is finished to bring in revenue? hmm

It's a f2p game. So there will be patches as long as the game exist.
If you call it beta or not. There are everytime things they have to fix or improve. See LoL. Its another example then WoT. They bring in new heros and balance the game every patch.
It doesnt matter how it is called.
I should go "live" when clans will come
