Hi all,

last month I decided to get a used HP dc7600c for 50€ with a P4-630, 1GB RAM and 80GB HDD with Ubuntu installed for upgrading this old PC for MWO ( maybe you can get one yourself even cheaper, as a lot of this business PC, or newer models from the same manufacturer, had been sold and substituted with newer models until now ! )

Does anyone know if a Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9550S is compatible to the MainBoard of my HP dc7600c, and what are the differences between a PLGA775 socket and a LGA775 socket ?

I asume that I need a CUSTOM or HACKED BIOS for upgrading to any socket 775 CPU better than the Pentium D 950, or for OVERCLOCKING this mainboard ... can anyone tell me where I might find information for such a hack ?

MfG, MEX

PS: some valuable information I have gathered until now:

Topic about dc7600 cmt cpu upgrade at HP's support site

4,052 for the Quad is looking very good compaired to less than 800 for a Pentium D, or the 371 of my currently used P4-630 !

You are more than likely correct about a custom/hacked BIOS. If the configuration of socket and CPU was not available for purchase from the OEM [HP] the BIOS will most likely not allow it to run at all.

I haven't tried it with a CPU, but I've seen this with wifi cards not supported by BIOS. it will actually TELL YOU it's not supported in many cases [HP, DELL]

As to the rest:

At least I now know that a PLGA 775 socket doesnt exist ;)

As far as I know I can use Pentium D CPU's up to the 950 :
http://www.diffen.co...l_Pentium_D_940

I was able to buy a Pentium D 820 this week at willhaben.at for 15€ :D

Now I need to clean the Pentium D 820 with 96% AETHANOLUM & coffee filter paper before I replace it with the currently used single core CPU ... bought the solvent for 1.1€ including a 10mL flacon at the pharmacy before I got home today.

Originally I intended to assembly a rig for less than 100€ ... but because of my new HD7750, crippled by 2GB DDR3, I have already spent more than 200€.

I got my used business HP dc7600c last month for 50€ with a single core P4-630 CPU, 1GB RAM and a 80GB HDD with Ubuntu installed on it.
1st upgrade was a used 320GB HDD from my USB-2.0 iomega MiniMax Dektop Hard Drive, which I ugraded to 2TB long ago.
2nd upgrade were 2x2GB PC2-6400 CL6 240-Pin DIMM which I bought new for 48.60€ ... I considered upgrading to a total of only 3GB with 2x1GB PC2-5300 for less than 20€, but decided against that.
3nd upgrade is a HD 7750 with 2GB DDR3 for 87.47€ which I bought yesterday ... I tested MWO with a GeForce 8400GS, which I bought for less than 30€, but as MWO never had more than 4-8 FPS ( even Logged Off ! ), I immediatly used the money back guarantee and got rid of this scrap.

With 5GB RAM, a single core P4-630 with 3GHz and the HD 7750 I now have 4-12 FPS in combat, up to 39 FPS in the mech bay and up to 46 FPS when I am logged off. Of course I use low settings and everything turned of including v-sync with only 1024x768 full screen resolution and only MWO running, except some background jobs of a fresh installed 64bit Windows 8 Release Preview.

4th upgrade will be a used dual core Pentium D 820, which I bought for 15€ at willhaben.at this week.

Let that mobo go, its not worth it. The chipset 945g, iirc was used in 2nd gen netbooks. Thats how terrible it is.

When I have enough ca$h for a new MoBo & CPU I intend to do that ... but I dont expect this to happen before summer and I didnt want to wait that long after getting access to the open beta in august, already lost more than 3 months in which I could have played MWO

And I needed a cheap case and power supply anyway, as I had stopped upgrading my PC's in the last century.

PS: Looks like the Pentium D 945 is the best choice for my HP dc7600c as it has a max. TDP of 95 W, which might allow me to get away without having to buy a new heatsink ... I see this as soon as I have upgraded to the Pentium D 820 which has a max. TDP of 95 W too.
Does anyone know if the "Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology" has any advantages for MWO, as this seemed to be the only new technology ?

Replaced my P4 630 with the Pentium D 820 in the meantime. But the 64bit Windows 8 CPU-Index only got from 4.1 to 4.5 !
Is the P4 630 really that good compaired to a Pentium D 820, or do I have a faulty dual core CPU ?

Since the upgrade I also have problems with the Test#7[Random number sequence] of Memtest86+ v4.20 from my Ubuntu installation.
After 15 minutes, when Test#7 starts, I get a lot of errors ... what can be the source of this behavior ?

that's not because the Pent 4 630 is really that good compared to the Pent D 820. It is because both those processors suck so badly by todays standards.

IMHO, your wasting your money upgrading that system with hopes of it working well for MW:O.

After noticing that MWO seemed playable at the PC of a friend ( 5.5 CPU, 5.8 RAM, 5.9 & 5.4 GPU, 5.9 HDD with Vista ) I decided to try MWO with a old used HP dc7600c for 50€.
With the P4-630 ( 4.1 CPU, 5.0 RAM, 6.8 & 6.8 GPU, 5.9 HDD with 64bit Win8 RP ) I wasnt satisfied of the performence of 4-12 FPS during combat, up to 39 FPS in the mech bay and up to 46 FPS when I am logged out.

As with the Pentium D 820 dual core, which I got for 15€ at willhaben.at, the CPU subindex raised only to 4.6, it seems that I need a Pentium D 945, which also has the advantage of needing only 95 Watt ( instead of 84 Watt of the original P4 630 so that I can use the same heatsink ), to reach the 5.5 CPU subscore of her PC. Have to look if I get a cheap used 945 or lower, as I dont want to spend more than 150$ for a new one ... a new mainboard with better CPU & RAM might be cheaper, but I needed a case and power supply anyway !

I did never hope to play MWO well with this scrap, I wanted to play MWO NOW instead of waiting at least until next summer before I can afford a new gaming PC :(
Until now I have spent 200€ for this purpose, but at least the most expensive parts I can use to upgrade the PC of my friend when I get a new mb or barebone and give the old HP dc7600 with the old RAM & GPU from her PC to another friend which is still playing Ghostbears Legacy at a ancient Pentium with 233 MHz :)

820 vs 945 Just click the performance sub tab across the top.
Thanks for this link :)

I might get a PD945 this year, raising my CPU performance for at least another 10% ... but sooner or later I need to get a new mainboard or barebone ...

I also considered this card:
http://geizhals.at/822341
But it needs more current, has only DDR3 instead of GDDR5 and only 384 instead of 512 unified shaders:
http://www.hwcompare...radeon-hd-7750/
Although it is slightly cheaper than a HD7750 and has 13% better Texel & Pixel rates, I dont like it because of its +10W !
Because of immediate availability and the price of 87.47€ I bought a MSI R7750-PMD2GD3, Radeon HD 7750, 2GB DDR3, DVI, HDMI ... many thanks to Chbribs and Vulpesveritas for their valuable advice :)
Currently I use MAX settings @ 1440x900 and dont see any difference in FPS or handling to MIN settings @ 1024x768 !

Here are some FPS values sampled during upgrading from a Pentium D 820 to a Pentium D 945, which raised my CPU-Perfomance by 10-20%, resulting in a CPU-Subindex of 5.0 instead of 4.6 or 4.1 :

Today I tested FPS Performance again, and I now seem to have usually 12-18FPS@1440x900&MAX and 21-27FPS@1027x768&MIN :o
