If PGI tried to raise money before going to free-to-play, I was unaware of it. I guess they didn't do a very good job of reaching out to people.

We weren't in the kickstarter era then yet, so they tried to raise money from publishers that would fund the product in hope of the earnings when the game would be published by them.

I prefer F2P. Putting MWO on the subscription model would just throw off most people from this game, especially if the timeline of the game's Community Warfare feature is in sync with the CBT 3050 timeline. We can't be fighting all day and paying money for a game that you don't always play is kinda silly.

A F2P model allows people to drop in, play to their satisfaction and drop out so that it doesn't interrupt their Real Life and be much more stress-free about spending money on stuff that doesn't disappear. A subscription model where a subscription fee is paying for your game access on a daily/monthly basis would make the users much more demanding as well.

I must comment though; some content is ridiculously priced and no offence to anyone, silly to pay for. Camo schemes or colours? Check. Overpriced Hero mechs? Check. Cockpit holograms? Check.

What's worse is the CBill & XP accumulation that make it a chore to play the game. It's just whacked to punish regular players for not paying for Premium time. And also, everyone loses half their CBills invested when we sell off our mechs because we don't have enough mech bays? I don't mind losing Mech XP but losing half the hard-earned CBills invested is just sad...

If that were the case in the canon CBT world, mercs would be hard-pressed to raise enough CBills for new mechs. Unless contracts were like easily 100-150 times what we're winning now in the matches.

Just my 2cents worth.

I voted one time 60$ purchase, but that implies they need to get rid of f2p stuff, all of it

Most of us on here ALREADY shelled out 60$

without way more content i doubt i would spend another 60$ unless it was for early access to clan tech (1 mech) and a additional 20000 mc +60 more days premium time...

NOT founders mind you, but ya know... something,

-EDIT-
Wow that sounds P2W dont it?

I'd spend another $120 for an Unseen Founder pack...

I want constant content updates. So the games I like are either subscription based or F2P.

one time fee or monthly sub. In general F2P games are poor imitations or lacking in content and you end up being strung along for content that shoudl have been in the game from day one/release.

One time fee doesn't make sense in any MMO game (GW2 is not one time fee ..just saying)..

So F2p or Subscription model are only options here.. and Subscription model works only if you are leader on the market and you have tons of players..(but F2p model works in this case too).. or if you are leader on your niche market (which is probably not true right now.. WoT has probably more players) and your development cost is not really high.. which in case MWO.. it is ..at least for now..

So F2p is pretty safe bet.. and as I see it, only viable option.

Free 2 Play (which I voted for) is the darling of the on-line world, although not every game should or indeed works well when shoved through the grinder and dished up. Even some games that were designed to be F2P just don't work properly.

However having the maximum possible payment options possible is, naturally a good thing and there are a segment of the population that don't like the F2P model and prefer the tried and true subscription model. It's negligible effort on PGI's part, PayPal even offers a repeat subscription contract (I used to to pay for DI.fm) that companies can setup.

So MWO should be both F2P game that has a subscription option available least additional effort for maximum gain. What a subscriber actually is in terms of MWO is something for debate and the 'perks' obviously need to be commensurable with the payment; you aren't going to get all the Hero Mech's (+all previous released ones) + Unlimited MC + C-Bill stipend for £1.99p/m after all.

But for £10 (or £9.99), I'd expect 'this months Hero' unlocked until either I MC up or stop being a subscriber (at which point any non-purchased Hero relocks), say 1,000 MC and what? 5m C-Bills? You can even fluff it up that subscribers are actual house warriors (and thus paid hence the stipends) rather than Mercs.

When trying to get in to peoples wallets you should be Burger King: have it your way.

Games with monthly subs are ******** to me. I have never, nor will I ever, pay a monthly sub on a game. I already have enough monthly bills.

ShadowRun is offering a onetime flat fee. It will unlock all. You will have to pay in game money but no more out of pocket... until they change the rules. :)

I think free to play is generally a bad idea. Subscriptions seem to work best for a constant flow of money for development.

A one time fee works for a game that is created, finished and put out. Doesn't work for constantly changing and evolving games.

Also in the end I think the problem is the way they designed the game and have kept it close to the chest.

They should have designed the game as almost a shell for the players to use to create their own leagues, community warfares, solaris matches, etc.

Wow - I really find it surprising that nobody would be willing to shell out a mere $60 to avoid all of the terrible downsides of a free-to-play game.

I already shelled out the aforementioned $60, and I'm still getting "all the terrible downsides" plus the devs' trolling. Your idea fails, and fails hard.

Subscription plans don't work very well, the problem is people tear through content get bored and hop games. This also puts up a bar to entry on players who have previously been subscribers. World of Warcraft is the best example of this for me. I would play it quite a bit everytime a new expansion was released then get bored and quit. I never ran more than a 1 month subscription because I knew it would turn into wasted money when another game came out and I spent my free time on it. The problem is I would still have occasionally logged into WoW had it not been subscription based. It would be like having to pay money to visit a store.

I think these threads are fairly pointless though, PGI will set its prices based on what they will sell at. Just vote with your wallet. If 10k people will pay 100 dollars for a hero mech they wont sell it to 200k people for 2 dollars. When you see those guys in game tell them it looks cool and be secretly happy that they are paying for your play. Keep in mind MWO is doing really well with their current pricing setup and is doubling its staff for more content for everyone.

I would be willing to use the standard model (one time fee to buy game, and monthly subscription)

As it stands I will never be able to enjoy:

$30 Hero Mechs
$6.95 Single Colors
$6.95+ Camo Patterns
$2.00+,- bobble heads and other doodads
$ Consumables
ETC

I can only afford to purchase mech bays, colors on sale, and sales on xp conversion. Which is fine in my book for now. (This is about what we would like to see rather than what we will put up with right)

I think that the free to play model is kind of cheesy and after spending money on several of these types of games I am finding myself more and more dissatisfied. Free to play games typically are more casual / underimplemented and get my time for a couple months before I get bored / angry with P2W features.

I would be absolutely happy with a monthly sub where I got either some mc or some freebie stuff along with other perks. As it stands in f2p there is some of the content I will simply never be able to enjoy. As time goes on I see this disparity growing until a point where I will choose another game to play. Could be wrong, but so far every other F2P has failed me in this same way.

the problem with this poll is the Devs propensity to do strange things. I am used to paying a subscription, it's built into my budget. However this dev team has me looking for something else to spend that money on.
