Once the Clans can be played BVs will have to be instatuted for match making.

What I mean is once the clans can be played and say my IS force takes on a pure clan force... for match making purposes, the Devs are going to have to go off of a BV (Battle value).

Up until Clan tech was readily available to the Inner Sphere, Clan Mech and Clan tech was far superior to that of the Inner Sphere and at least for BVs were concerned, 1 STAR of Clan mech (5 mech) could have up to the same BV as up to 8 IS mech. So my point is... the clans equivalent to a IS lance (4 mech) is a STAR (5 clan mech) but those same 5 clan mech easily overpower a IS lance of 4 mech and so... for TT purposes, if you had a STAR of clan mech, your enemy could put a total BV of mech that could allow him to bring in 8 IS Mech.

so I guess what Im asking is (IF) clan tech and Mechs are only going to be Clan specific for a while at least and only Clan players will be able to use these mech and their tech and IS players have to face the clans with IS mech and IS tech... the game as far as clan over all match size vs IS match size will have to be based off of a BV or they will have to allow 12 (3 lances) of IS players VS up to 10 (2 Stars) of Clan players for some kind of balance. Im sorry... if its still 12 vs 12, this unbalances the clan military structure from the start and 12 clan mech will run all over 12 IS mech. And I dont want to see the clans nerfed in power either just to make them equal to the IS because they in all honesty are not equal.

The devs have already mentioned a BV system.

I imagine the devs are not even considering how clans will be implemented just yet...first get a game people want to play, spend the next year rolling in money and success then worry about it.

I think my comments got lost in another thread on a similar topic but it seems the easiest way to balance things would be splitting clan and IS so IS only fights IS and clan only fights clan. It's not the most "realistic" solution in terms of BT history but it removes all the issues of clan tech vs IS, players choosing clan for "I Win" button.

I really don't see balance possible in IS vs clan fights. Too many players will join the side that is easiest to win, either clan due to tech or IS if they get a significant numbers advantage that easily overpowers the clan tech advantage in the average match. If the balance is too far off what is going to stop players from just dropping out when they see they're in a match they have little chance of winning? Sure the hardcore IS or clan players will stick to their chosen faction no matter what happens but I fear far too many players will look for the easy path to victory by joining the side that has the advantage at any given point in time.

sorry bro but if they are already talking about including the clans at a later date... they have considered how the clans might be implemented.

I've got a pretty strong feeling that matchmaking will be the one item that gets the most changes even before the clans.

It's probably the hardest part of the game, and the most important.

I'm sure they won't do the invasion until they have a few good ideas sorted out based on the knowledge they gain from the first year of play.

A BV, or modified BV, is needed. We just don't know what form it will take at this time. But there is plenty of time before the Clans arrive. A few things to worry about beforehand, tho'.
  • Launch MVP.
  • Balance of IS tech. Checking data from thousands of matches.
  • Beta testing Clan Mechs and equipment. Setting BV values (or modified BV, or whatever the devs settle on)
  • Clan Invasion.
Fourth item, Clan Invasion, happens in March so let's walk it backwards, shall we?

March - Clans
January - closed Clan Beta testing with open in February (a guess but this will require a bit less time as IS match data will have already been collected)
Balancing of IS tech and hammering out a BV system - between launch of MVP and January. How many months? Five, four. Gb's of data to collate, sort and pour over.
Launch of MVP - "Summer 2012". June? July? September? Soon™, relatively speaking for those that have been waiting 10 years.

Seems to me there is plenty of time to get this all ironed out. Personally, not sweating it.
