"Life After People", anyone?
-----
"Arcturus was the original capital of the Lyran Commonwealth at their founding in 2341, home to Arcturan Arms and serving as seat of government to the Nine Archons. Eventually, with the Draconis Combine slowly gaining ground in the Tamar Pact to directly threaten Arcturus with an invasion, Archon Marsden proposed a switch of the capital to his own homeworld of Tharkad in the Donegal Protectorate, which was accepted by the other Archons.
The resulting population shift as inhabitants followed the capital has left a series of cities on the world that are vastly oversized for the current population. Many of the citizens moved to the countryside as well, making the cities feel even emptier. Several of these cities remain in use, but with dramatically reduced populations. Many of the rest of them have been destroyed by the environment as nature reclaims the land."
"Discovered in 2310, Tharkad rapidly came under the control of Seth Marsden. Marsden imported a number of cold-weather plants and animals from Terra and elsewhere, making it somewhat similar to Scandinavia on Terra during the 20th century. It became the capital of the Lyran Commonwealth in September of 2407 and a large space was cleared north of the major city of Olympia to house the governmental buildings, called the Triad."
Sept. 2407 to Dec. 3049 = ~642 years since the relocation of the Lyran capital and the exodus from Arcturus' cities.

Even though I'm a veteran Mech Warrior, I still can't say Arcturus without adding Mengsk to the end of it. Curse you Star Craft!
