Poll: Should EndoSteel, FerroFibrous etc. be unlockable rather than pay each time you switch? (151 member(s) have cast votes)

Should Endosteel, DHS, Ferro Fib armor be unlockable options on a per mech basis rather than having to buy them every time you switch your configuration

  1. Yes - They cost millions to unlock and I like try new configurations (131 votes [85.06%] - View)

  2. Voted No - You should have to pay millions if you take them off then put them back on again, even on the same mech. (23 votes [14.94%] - View)

How about a compromise? Pay the initial amount in the millions to buy and install it initially. Then, pay a reduced amount for 'labor' to swap it out with other components that you have in your inventory. Just like a real-life mechanic shop. Fair?

It would be better, but conceptually it would still bother me to pay to swap it around. As the post below you said, a simulation isn't a substitute for fun and 'freemium' games have to walk a fine line between trying to add immersion and seeming to nickel and dime the player. The more things they make us pay to do, the more they will seem to be crooks rather than adding depth or complexity.

I would rather have it cost 2x or 3x up front then just have it unlocked, but your recommendation is better than what is there now.

I'm not categorically opposed to that idea. The larger overall issue is the fact that "loadout" and "upgrades" are separate in the mechlab so that you have to pay the money before you can check to see if it works with your build, then immediately pay again if it doesn't.

I think they are planning to fix that eventually, maybe with the mechlab overhaul, which we might get around february.

Wait, what? Endosteel, Ferrofibrous Etc. aren't unlockable? Pardon my french but are you guys (PGI) crazy? Not only is this really counter intuitive, it seems really punitive too. I am what you would call a casual mechwarrior fan, I don't know any of the nuances of mech design - I build pretty much what my friends tell me to build. Now if I were to go into the mechlab and buy some sweet new upgrade (Endosteel for example) and as a result I didn't have enough capacity to put my favourite weapon on my mech and then I found out I needed to pay to revert my change I would figurately throw my game out the window.

well, i guess the problem with having a poll when you don't want an honest answer that doesn't agree with you is that leading questions/ answers are usually discounted by any unbiased observer with any polling or statistical experience...

I'm hoping you'll post again with a view of how you think the system should work, so as to contribute to the conversation rather than just saying 'you're doing it wrong' which is what your current post does.

Seriously, if you think the system should stay as it is, state your reasons. If you think it should be something totally different then lay that out for us to see. Either way, attacking the poll structure does nothing to address the underlying issue.
