You could save alot of time programming things badly by polling the community and ask them what they think about future implementations, rather than just implementing things that turn out to be horrible, and have to spend oodles of time fixing/adjusting them later? Why not find out good information ahead of time from the genius that is your audience?

You know they say that 100,000 heads are better than... 1?

Absolutely! That's one of the best suggestions I have seen so far. Use the collective for feedback, and implement based on votes.

Polls give the illusion of democracy. This is not a democracy. At best it's capitalism and you can vote with your money or feet.

Would you prefer gameplay be dictated to us, even if we hate it? What good does it do for things to be forced upon us, that we hate in a game, where we can just leave and play another game?

Voting and discussion can save alot of development time.

Yes. The majority of people have no idea what they really want. Giving them a say is a sure road to disaster. Open voting on design ends in mediocrity. Better to have many competing products than to allow the masses to vote.

That assumes that the masses have some sort of idea on how to design a game. Most "good ideas" the polls are based on would be from personal experience and what changes would help them. That's not how you make a game. At least not a good one. Game design by vote is just a bad idea because very few take into account how all the nuts and bolts of game come together to make it work. And for those that do seem to get it, I'd rather see a well thought out post explaining why they think their ideas are good ones as opposed to a long, stupid thread with an over simplified poll and a bunch of "Likes" in it. I'd imagine the more descriptive posts are more useful to the developers as well because then they can see the thought process behind the suggestions and would be more likely to consider them.

More like "None of us is as dumb as all of us."

And you do realize this would be setting the game up to be designed by popular vote? That didn't seem to sit too well when a vote went against your opinion in another thread- the poll got removed and you went all sour grapes with some spiel about how it only proved the people voting against your idea were mentally deficient...

How about leading by example- put the poll back on your pet thread, then agree with the majority. If they're good enough to decide on your idea, they're good enough to design the game. On the other hand if they're mentally deficient and the poll must be ignored...same probably applies to the rest of the game. Put your money where your mouth is.

Honestly, This suggestion would have been SO MUCH sweeter if you had done it as a poll.
