After a week of HEAVY playing (pun intended) on my Muromets and experimenting everything from triple gauss to triple UAC to triple LBX and triple AC10, I have at last come to a configuration that fits my playing style BEST:

Weapons: 2 x AC10 + 1 x Gauss
Armor: 400 (had to take down some armor to accomodate ammo)
Structure: Endo Steel
Engine: XL 255 (had to go with a lighter engine to accomodate Gauss)

I play it with 2 weapon groups, first one is an alpha strike and the second one simply chains through all 3 weapons for fast moving targets.

I cored a muromet in one alpha to the cockpit just down and downed another two hunchbacks running circle of death around me using chain fire.

What is your ideal Muromets setup so far guys?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MY LATEST CONFIG! :) (8 Dec)

I really pushed the limit on this one for a 45 damage alpha...

1 x Gauss, 1 x PPC, 2 x AC10 !!!! ROCK AND ROLL!!!

With DHS, heat efficiency is 1.11 which is really good and I have not overheated so far playing it with 2 weapon groups, one on alpha strike and one on chain fire. I would alpha on clear stationary targets and then chain fire when it starts moving, with this strategy, I have never once overheated and the sound of all that weapons on alpha strike? JIZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!

I struggled with mine too. After going through 2x AC10 + 3 medlas and 2x LBX + 3 medlas (more ammo, but the LBX sucks), I decides on 3x AC5 + 3 medlas. Same alpha as a Gauss kitty, lasers help with light mechs, and enough ammo to party for a while. If I don't get focused down immediately, I'm usually in the top 3 for damage. And it is possible to learn to lead Jenners well enough to pop them with the ACs :).

It's too bad the LBXs don't do more... they look awesome when firing, and the spread is nice for keeping effective DPS up. Just no good for quick efficient kills.

My current build is similar, except I shaved off a lot of "unneeded" armor so I could fit large laser in the arm. What i ended up getting was not only a mech that good for "grinding" (Saved a lot of money by shaving off that armor) but it ended up being quite the deadly medium range support mech.

I run mine with 2 AC10, 2 medium lasers, 1 Large Laser (in the arm), a 300XL, 12 DHS, ES and 75 shots for the ACs. I love this setup, the damage is nice, you have a nice range with the LL and the AC10s, and you can switch the LL for an ERLL if you want the extra range.

The key to making it work (for me at least) is laying off the LL when you are up close and personal. The LL can add just a little too much heat if you fire it with everything else, so you use it to hit at range and to add more punch when needed.

Bought my MechRomney last night and settled into the same set up I use with my 3d, 2 gauss 3 mlas. Less jumping mo money. I'd like to find something different to be doing with it though...maybe a guass and 3 LL. Maybe just enjoy my EZ headshots and mo money

gauss and 3 LL...sounds interesting.

I lol'ed at "Mechromney". What else was I gonna spend my founder's MC on besides bays? :)

I feel like Mech Romney blowing $22 on pixels but I worked some overtime and I love this freaking game. The permanent C-Bill bonus is the biggest feature along with a tolerable hardpoint set up (I'M LOOKIN AT YOU WANG)

Interesting, I might play with that.

My Ilya Marmaduke is kitted as follows:

Endo
260 XL
11 DHS
400 armor
1 Gauss (30 rnds)
2 AC/2 (300 rnds)
2 Medium Lasers

It runs pretty cool most of the time unless I really start it up with all guns blazing nonstop, but it snipes/harasses better than it looks on paper, and even brawling has proven very effective for me tonight.

Don't know how you don't run 3 uac5's tbh.

That much dakka is just too much fun.

I did run 3 UAC5s but I don't like the jamming. :) And according to Murphy's law, they ALWAYS jam when they shouldn't... the DPS on my current setup is ALOT more reliable than 3 UAC5s...

Surprisingly, 2 PPC's and 2 AC'5 work exceedingly well with enough DHS, and a nice 30 damage focused per shot with a faster recycle time. Once you start overheating, switch to AC/5's.

I went for a Scout killer.... 2 LBX10s in Arms 2 med Lasers in Torsos.. DHS and Endo.. Std 280...... Max armor and AMS...

Stay near the big targets and clean teh ravems and commados off them ... If you get into it with the Heavies and Assaults.. It still does BAD things to them in a knife fight..

All stock (thinking of going Endo to pack some more ammo or trip on the Mlas)...

UAC/5 x 2
LBX-10 x 1
MLaser x 1

I like playing support role... 5's chained and my jam ratio is less that 2% roughly. (Some folks don't like the LBX but I personally love it as a finisher up close) LBX and Mlas is a nice light mech and knife fight deterrent... :)

I use

3x UAC/5
2x ML
300 XL.
Endo/DHS

Great speed, and I put the uac's in chain fire, which really cuts down on the jamming and makes it easier to aim. When I need it, I just cut off chain fire and turn into a buzzsaw of death for the 1.5 shots it takes for them to all jam. I would cut down to normal ac's, but i like the extra range and the option of a quick burst of damage when needed. Besides that's what my 4X is for.

Thinking of trying to make my 3x ac/10 build work again by putting them in chain fire.

You can go up to 3 LBX with 2 med lasers with pretty much the same setup. Experience the real horror of 3 LBX, it feels very different from just 2. B)

To be honest, there's really no other role the Muromets fill best but a support role. It is WAY too squishy in a brawl.

I actually find the 4X a much more versatile (albiet slower) mech than the muromets due to the LRM5 and pretty much the same other things. The only really strong reason for me to play the muromets now is just the cbills boost hehehe... I use the cbills boost to quickly upgrade my 4X which I bought after buying the muromets. Initially I intended to just use it as one of the mechs I need to get the muromets to elite and then just sell them after that but I actually fell in love with the 4X enough to give it a coat of real money paint. Put a Gauss Rifle and an ER Large Laser on him and he's not so bad... kinda.

I have tried several configs. Here's mine

Dual Gauss Rifles on arms
3 ML
XL 300
Max armor except on legs (it's like 40 on each leg)
Endo steel
10 DHS

It does quite well, specially if I don't go first of the group and guns blazing.
