While there are plenty of favorites to choose from, I'd have to go with the original Star Wars (ep.4). My thoughts on this is it really helped make scifi more main stream and advanced the movie making/special effects process.

John Carpenter's the Thing is my favorite horror movie, followed by Alien.
Favorite sci-fi movies would be Star wars (excluding prequels :() and District 9 (i <3 that movie :))
I also like Tim Burton's movies like Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare before christmas, corpse bride, etc.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. And Army of Darkness as a close second. Gotta love Bruce Campbell.

Akira Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai" , Criterion Collection. Watch it then rewatch it with commentary.

An often copied movie with Toshiro Mifune at his finest!

Cheers.

I'd have a hard time pinpointing a single favorite movie, so I'll do a top 5 in no particular order.
  • Die Hard
  • Beverly Hills Cop
  • Religulous
  • Lethal Weapon
  • Scott Pilgrim vs The World

I have to do a Top Three for this question.....

1. Bladerunner: 30 years later and it still looks like the future. Odd considering CRT screens are nearly extinct now.

2. Dune (David Lynch version): I can never explain why I love this one, it's just "Epic".

3. The Chronicles of Ridick: The closest movie ever made to good old-fashioned Golden Age sci-fi.
