DO we even know if there will be a pre-battle time?

- World of tanks style, you press battle, 30 secs for everyone to load map then your on with it!!!!
- Your mech should be sat in you mech lab ready to go.

Yes, you definitely should pick the 'mech you play on before battle.

5 minutes is insane. 60seconds tops. You shouldn't be making up a new variant at the start of a match. At most you should be picking a configuration. Hell, I'd like it more if you had to set up mechs before dropping into a room and if you roll a city map with your uber long range no armor min/max mech, tough luck.
Agreed. You want to design a Mech? Exit the match, hop into Mechlab and do it up on your own dime. When you're happy with the variant, head back over to matchmaking and get into a game. Wasting other people's time is, IMO, too common a form of disrespect in online gaming.
