Was playing a game on River City when our flag started being attacked. Like good little lemmings we all went back to help save it.

Just before I got there I saw a friendly Mech head on in and start fighting. But when I got there, none of the Mechs inside the Square (there were 4) had any Friendly or Enemy denotation either on the map or as UI/HUD objects. It was just 4 Mechs fighting each other and I couldn't for the life of me figure out who was friendly and who was enemy.

This happens a lot nowadays. In the past, it was common every game for one, sometimes two dudes to disappear from the Map if I weren't looking at them, and then reappear with a target spotted sound bite when I looked at them. However now it's much more common; friendlies will often lack any presence on the map and have no icon above them when viewed through the cockpit. Often times when I stop to look at my map to gauge the position of my lancemates I'll only see 3 or 4 other friendly Mechs represented on it -- the rest invisible.

Why is this? Please tell me it's a bug, and not some sort of screwy feature of ECM.

Do not know. It's a bug, not some sort of screwy feature of ECM.

Actually it is ECM. Once you're inside hostle ECM bubble your targeting goes all wacky. Might be a bug with ECM, but it happens to me all the time.

I know it makes ENEMY targetting act all wonky, but why would it affect my ability to see my teammates? And, very often it'll happen right at the start of a match when no enemy ECM could possibly be nearby.

I've reported this issue a few days ago in the Patch feedback thread.

http://mwomercs.com/...th-hud-and-ecm/

Please take a look at the conditions I list and see if any apply. Basically though, the way ECM works this scenario should never occur as if you have line of sight, friendlies at the very least will always display even under ECM.

I've been trying to catch it on video, but it happens very rarely. I've only had it happen once more since posting my original thread and that was actually this morning, which was a throw away game before going to work so of course I forgot to record it sigh.

Short answer though: Yes this is a bug. Record which map, what mech you were in and if possible distance to the targets and report it.

If you are within an enemy ECM bubble, your IFF (identification friend or foe) cannot transmit data to your team mates, therefore they cannot recieve data on who is a friendly and who is not and must rely on their eyes and memory to tell who is who.

Well, if there was a hostile ECM, then your friendlies inside their bubble would be cloaked from you and your other teammates.

Here's a tip; If you go into thermal, you can see waves on the ground emanating from any ECM.

You're ******** me! That sounds pretty cool. you better not be lying :)

I don't like the idea of ECM removing my ability to see where my teammates are. That's just sick. Okay, maybe remove their friendly ICON (at least replace it with some neutral icon showing that you don't know if its Friend or Foe!), but not from the minimap. Cruel.

Ecm doesn't remove your ability to id team mates, just you need line of sight to id them at range, they don't appear on radar, this is a legitimate bug.
