I love them all, but playing MW2 or MW2:Mercs on a newer system, after playing recent games just doesn't seem the same that it did when I was actively playing them.

Play a classic MechWarrior game that I have fond memories of, or play what's pretty much an alpha version of a new one. Which one should I choose? Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying MWO for what it is at the moment, and I hope it turns out to be a great game. But sometimes you want to revisit the past with a few extra people.

MW3 had the best campaign, by far.
I have MW4 installed on my computer right now...

Pretty sure MW3 runs on Win7 64 bit, though you might have to end the rundll32 process for the installer to show up after you execute it.
I think the last operating system MW2 runs on properly is XP through a patch.
