So yeah the jaggermech is awesome very excited BUT! I'm a little worried about how similar it looks to the rifleman (like a lot ). So are they inviting law suits or what I sincerely hope not but this is a sue happy world we live in. I would hate for the mech to be changed or gods forbid the game dies. Thoughts?

If it did look too similar to the rifleman then the Jagermech would have been an unseen also. Nothing to worry about.

Hopefully since it's not a rifleman they won't even notice but yeah it would be nice if they didnt make noise even with a real rifleman

IMO, it looks totally different. Almost no similarity at all!

you do realize that the jager was built as an upgrade to the rifleman right?

Personally, I'm not too worried about it. How many car designs are similar to other company designs?

Similar is still not the same.

Hell I've seen patents that are essentially the same are a predecessors design but for one function moved to a deferent location.

I think its got some characteristics, but not enough to say omg its a rifleman in my opinion. I wouldn't worry too much.

It's not the size of the canon it's the load it holds

if i remember the TRO correctly the Jagermech was a cheaper "upgraded" version of the Rifleman, less weight, less armor, and less firepower. On the upside a bit faster if i remember correctly. The Jagermech is a damn good scout hunter, and with Ac's hitting at LRM ranges it definitely gets sniper detail till the Gauss rifle becomes more prevalent. Like the rifleman though its primary role was anti-aircraft, which the ac/5's and ac/'s were perfectly suited to. my favorite mod is to get them xl engines and replace the ac/2's with LB10x's and leave the ac/5s as is.

Without the name "Rifleman" it would have to look almost exactly like the trademarked design to have any chance of a successful lawsuit. Of course, that doesn't mean they won't try to sue, given that their business model is built on collecting money from lawsuits.

I wonder how Chuck Conners feels about his TV show name being stolen by Macross translators...

It's the other way around - Jag is 65t, Rifleman is 60t.

Given that it has 2 legs, 2 arms and mounts weapons, HG will probaly TRY to claim it as theirs. Not much hope of success there though.

Mostly correct, the Jagermech was made to cover up the perceived flaws of the rifleman, mostly the ammo limitation. It's the heavier of the two mechs though, but has significantly less armour.

a repost from the battlemech announcement:
why everyone think it look like the unseen rifleman ? ;) the leg look a bit like the rifleman... I guess, but the rest of the mech look pretty much like the good old jagermech :) (I think people want so much to have the unseen in the game that they will see unseen in any design that remotely look like one)
