BUT one friend had his drop from 40 to 28-29 after this recent patch, so he uninstalled the client and then reinstalled it. As of now his FPS went back up to 40.
Just spreading the possible fixes for people VIA Forums. Hope it works for some of you.

With FPS being heavily reliant on what is on screen at the moment, seeing a 25% drop/increase sounds on par with looking at the environment vs. being in a multi-player brawl. When more polys on are screen, you're just gonna get that drop.
Also..BETA BETA BETA! I think PGI are still working on optimizations; seems each patch fixes/hurts people at random intervals. People with beast machines, at times, get really poor FPS.

Also, I'm quite sure PGI is still looking for performance feedback on those who do a full reinstall of their clients. Be sure to send in tickets/emails to give them more feedback.

Still get much lower FPS since the newest incarnation of CryEngine was introduced, along with the 4 FPS issue after 3-5 matches, none of which I got prior to the CryEngine patch.

I just went from Windows 7 x64 to Windows 8 x64, clean OS install, and MWO runs perfectly fine from my game drive where I had it installed before. *
* perfectly fine by MWO standards of course

That and rarely the overheat shutdown thing but all you gotta do is spam P to shut down and start back up and its fixed.
I play this game maybe 4-5 hours a day sometimes and really don't have any issues at least none that I don't have a quick fix for.

Its stated in one of the threads by the Devs that the lag was due primarily to the TERRAIN details. So when your mech moves, your computer is busy loading new details in the background and hence the leg. Since then, they have worked on lightening up some maps such as the Forest Colony, which I did see significant improvement.

I understand that, but I was running fine for a month and a half until the Nivember patches. The optimizations have done nothing for me, on Forest colony at the middle of the map I get 12 FPS as opposed to the 50 I had before.

As a commercial licensee of the engine I expect that they actually have someone at Crytek to look at specific issues / help them out with coding specifics and optimizing. Its also in the interest of CryTek that a game based on their engine isn't too horrible.

Alt-tabbing out/in fixed my fps after my driver crashed.
I used to run a pretty solid 60fps until these recent patches. Most notibly I ctarted crashing until I lowered my settings from maxed to medium. I think get the same fps, but the crashes have stopped.
