How big does a serious Mercenary Company have to be?

Or rather how big should the rewards of planetary ownership be to finance the work involved?

And most importantly how many players can we cram into how much space?

And yes I assume that a spare lance of a Merc Company can tag along with a random House skirmish if their own battles are full up.

I just hope that a company's worth of players is capable of holding a planet if they are dedicated enough.

Maybe the rewards could increase the longer someone occupies a planet until it hits a cap.
This provides at least some incentive for the smaller groups to have a go at doing this kinda stuff.

Because it would be plain impossible for one company to hold a planet for 6 hours without someone taking a break.
Once the most capable mechwarriors are relieved by random guys it all falls apart.

Maybe holding the planet for 2 hours should get a tiny reward and then it increases by tiny increments every 2 hours till it hits the cap at 24 hours?
For every 6 hours the planet is held there is a more significant boost to the reward perhaps?

Be there many Merc Companys that have around 50 to 100 Mechs and Pilots?
I would say 20 is a realistic number that may change in the games live environment.

I was going to say, as this time in the lore, the bigger mercenary groups I know of are a couple regiments. That would be roughly....

12 per company,
3 Companies per Battalion (36 mechs)
Generally 3 battalions to a regiment (108 mechs)

Which means the largest merc companies would be 2-300 players. And that is maybe... 4 merc units.

I say a company sized force can hold it in the short term, a battalion sized force can hold it for a lot longer.

And a bit off topic, what are the major merc units at this time. I think it was Kell Hounds, Northwind Highlanders, Wolf's Dragoons, and Eridani Light Horse.
