just so every1 knows it is possible to damage/destroy components even when you still have lots of armor left in a location...it happens....its called a critical hit/shot. just finished a game where i took out an atlas with a custom hunchback and i scored a crit hit and some1 was complainin g bout why even have armor....well it happens, its rare but it happens ;)

It's not supposed to happen. No item should be critted when armor remains in that location.

as far as I know, crits only happen AFTER the armor is stripped.

Definately happening,

Was in my gausscat last night. Very early in the fight I got whacked by some SRMs, and immediatly both of my gauss rifles went red. Now oddly enough I didn't die to any XL explosion, and more strange that that, Both my side torsos were still YELLOW on the armor, both front and rear. I wish to hell I had taken a screenshot, most definatly will if I see it again.

Its definatly happening.

There is a precendence for this in TT, known as the floating crit. If you were rolling for a hit location and you got snake-eyes, you rolled again and received a critical hit to that location, regardless of remaining armour. Think of it as the shot hitting a weak spot, or shaking something important loose. It happened often enough, but only once did I see it go to its catastrophic conclusion when a floating crit managed to impact the cockpit of a mech. Either way, the mechanic exists in TT, and I have seen it happen in game. It is no shock to me at least.

Yes, this is definitively in the game. Whether it is a bug or working as intended remains to be answered. I think I recall an official statement that there are no through-armor crits in the game, but I'm not sure about this.

Now that I'm leveling my Atlas, I get this all the time. Just had a game that started with the 4-FPS bug. Was happy that I had some LRMs and could do at least some damage. One minute into the game a Jenner sneaks behind me, fire's at my back and destroys both LRM launchers without breaching the armor. great, so much for being useful with 4 FPS ;)
Can't count the times that I lost an AC/20 or Gauss without any internal damage...

Screenshot it and send in a bug report next time. This is not supposed to happen.

I figured this was part of the game and a downside to using weapons with more crit spots. I rarely if ever lose my 1-2 slot weapons before losing the component that they're in but I lose my AC20 in my Hunch G all the time. And all the time is only a slight exageration, I've lost it while having orange armor a lot of times and a few times with dark yellow armor.

I wonder is this the same phenomenon that is causing front CT shots to hit rear CT armour aswell.

Now that one is bloody annoying. Happens a fair bit to me.

It is not, "Definitely happening." What most likely is, however, happening is a bug with the paper doll not properly displaying damage when large strikes occur in very quick succession.

Example: Posted Image

According to the paper doll, the left side of the mech has pristine armor, but has lost internals entirely. In reality, the hit took off the left torso entirely so quickly that the paper doll merely bugged.

If you look closely, the arm is missing in the cockpit rendering of the lefthand window (all weapons front and center).

While this IS a bug, it is not a "Through armor crit."

That could be an explanation, but I'm not 100% convinced of it. If only the paperdoll wouldn't update, the damage would still be there and one should lose other equipment and finally arm+torso after being hit again, but I had a lot of games where only one weapon was destroyed. Especially in an Atlas it's not hard to lose the entire side torso, so it would be unrealistic to expect the enemy to only shoot until the AC/20 is destroyed and then stop to fire at the RT.
I will keep an eye on this though and try to determine if there is just a problem with the damage displayed when this happens again.

That is not so bad I had full armor, didn't even get hit and had a shoulder go from gray to yellow to orange to red, then I died.

Half of my deaths feel like crit shots into armored areas. It definitely happens.

Yeah and I've lost my Hunch's AC20 and then taken plenty more shots before losing my arm or right torso because I'll still have my right arm's ML for quite a while.
