for one person to get 1k+ means the rest of the team need to do reasonably small amounts of damage.

Played 6 against 8 yesterday - and won ! Thats a way to upping the damage^^

Meh.

Stats mean nothing to me. Seriously. They rarely TRULY reflect anything useful, and when I see damage over 1000 it tells me one of 2 things.

1) Someone is spamming LRMs and other mass damage, indiscriminate weapons.
2) They are PUG Farming.

I have never seen someone using precision weapons, with good aim get stupid high damage. It is possible I suppose, but if a person is REALLY good, why not core out the Cockpit/Center Torso and be done?

Ah. Because you can't pad your stats that way.

Also, until PGI decides to publish and maintain our scores publicly, I view pretty much any screen shot with a degree of reservation, as a quick visit to GIMP or Photoshop can make anyone look amazing.

My best match was a mere 170+ damage. Killed 4 mechs. Would have killed more, but my teammates got greedy. Head shots with my Wang. That is more interesting to me than screenshots for my E-Peen. (I'll leave that stuff to Brett Favre)

I've hit 1700 before.

Generally if you are doing more than 1000 without LRMs your entire team is doing it wrong.

OR you are the brawler atlas that blindly charges the enemy team and proceeds to blow everyone up. I cant remember any exact numbers because its been a long time since ive had to worry about dropping with only pugs, but i have had i believe 4 games with damage over 1k, 1 of those being an LRM/DFS hybrid atlas and the other 3 being brawler atlases. I have hit numbers close to 1k with my 3 UAC/5 ilya recently highest ive reached with that one is 953, but ive gotten some good damage with my jenner (700+) and had some really fun times with SRM K2's......clans make a big difference on your damage, your damage goes down (generally not all the time) and your damage goes up.

Large damage games are because you are using an LBX or missile system that scatters your damage. Otherwise you just can't aim. If it takes you so much dam to take down a mech your not aiming properly and it just shows you need to focus a bit more.

because, at least back in closed beta (and probably still is the case but admittedly i haven't tested it objectively since open) if/when you core them you get

<name> has killed <name>
component destroyed 500 cb 15 xp
component destroyed 500 cb 15 xp
component destroyed 500 cb 15 xp
component destroyed 500 cb 15 xp

instead of just

<name> has killed <name>

then your damage goes up, even though you haven't inflicted any more damage with your weapons

True. Of course, I tend to not worry about "style points". Too often while "Maximizing Profits" one actually takes mroe damage or loses another teammate, thus actually reducing the profitability of the match. If I take the time to spam to 300 pts damage to kill a mech I could have killed with 30, that is time not spent killing other opponents, time that if the opposition is any good, they might be killing my guys. I'd rather kill then move on. No need to play with my food.

I'd rather have damage shared among all my team then be the only one with any significant damage. That way if I'm having a bad game for whatever reason, I know my teams got me on this one.

I once nearly lost a game that I had 6 kills in. Luckily, the one guy that survived longer than me on my team was in an ECM raven and he managed to pull it off.

Having high damage numbers isn't just indicative of you being awesome, it's also your team being bad. That's not a good thing.

I'm normally floating between 400-600, but I've gotten up to 1100 or so before on games which where particularly hard to pinpoint my enemy.

As everyone else is saying, if you're dumping in the 4 digits your team is doing something wrong or you're just using scatter-shot style aiming/weapons.

problem is that the high damage in this thread only shows 1 thing, we had to carry the team that round.
I would much rather have a game where everyone does 300+ damage and kills/assists are spread around.

You wouldnt get a damage figure that high without decent team support occupying the enemy.

I dont know why, but after the 2nd or 3rd kill it stops giving me the big run down on my kills and just says "xx has killed xx" without the xp bonuses, components etc.

Its funny splatting a commando with 6srm6, getting 4-7 component destructions in one go B)

Missiles deal more damage because it spreads out (and deals more anyway should the salvo hit). With a 4 SRM6 + Artemis Awesome I can get 1300 in a good game. These are rare now though, think everyone has got a bit good!

Doing a lot of damage either means you're using lrms OR you click a lot and have bad isolation aim and are hitting a lot of different parts- instead of head/chest/side torso's for XL. (Unless every mech is a streakcat and you need to take the arms off/legs jenner)

Considering you could probably HS a whole team <300 damage doing 1k+ damage in a brawler shows that the other team/your team is bad for letting you live that long to do that.

Completely agree. High damage numbers are fun, but the quick kill is where its at. You save ammo and dmg to your own mech, as well as being able to move to the next target.
