Just an idea - would it be possible to make areas of the mech "glow" when approaching critical temperature? Much like the mech glows now when hit by enemy lazers, but specifically over critical areas of the mech to indicate that a mech is near shutdown. This could be furthered when using the thermal vision mode (it may already be in there on that mode and i just haven't seen it yet)

It not only would look neat, but it would be a good way for a pilot in battle to see which enemy mechs have run themselves closest to shutdown, and where to allocate heating fire (say with PPC's or flamers).

Thoughts?

Anything that glows interferes with the game engine.

If you pay attention, when you are looking at a mech that is being hit repeatedly by lasers, as their mech gets hotter, your screen will fade darker and darker.

This is part of the problem with SRM's, the black fade combined with the smoke generated from their exhaust and the explosions will instantly cause the hit player to be blinded for a number of seconds.

They are working on ways to fix this, but right now, this would only add to the problem.

As far as showing heat, you do see an immediate increase in a mech's heat level when you are looking at them through Thermal vision.
