Trial mech's are awesome against other trial mechs OR any lowly customized non-optimized mech' any player takes out on the field. In any situation the PILOT makes the difference. Then, the second limiting factor is the build itself, custom or default.

The trial mech system needs a re-design. It is way too hard to bring people in while making them drive those lemons.
I get that PGI wants to make money with the game, I don't have a problem with that. So I understand wanting a slight "push" towards plunking down for some MC. But clearly the current way of doing it isn't accomplishing that.
Frankly, I think an obvious option would be to make the Hero mechs more affordable. If the Yen was $5, included it's own mechbay, and came with it's current config and benefits, how easy would it be to sell to a new player? Stop piloting those lame trial mechs, and buy a modestly priced "Hero" that comes with a bonus to cbill generation and some potent (but limited) weapons.
Once they get a taste for playing the game like it ought, they'll want to make their own custom rides and expand the garage. The Yen is a perfect tease since it is comparatively powerful to the trials out of the box, but kind of shallow in terms of customization and alternate load outs. I think all the Hero mechs should be sold at a cheap rate, while marketing and tone really pushes players to making their "own" mech. Message it like Hero mechs are great starters, but the real pride is in owning your own custom fleet.

I would just replace one of them with a mech that has really low dps but can't overheat (at all). So new players can experience both sides of the game. If they want more dps they will generate more heat and know it. Now all they know is "if I shoot I will overheat -> no fun".

But with a proper heat system trial Mechs are actually fair to good. And the Awesome 9M is worthy of it's namesake without Mods.

i hope the devs aren't blind , and not see what the community asks for . most of the posts in the Suggestions section , ask mainly for the same thing , NEW PLAYERS with NEW PLAYERS , and EXPERIENCED PLAYERS with EXPERIENCED PLAYERS !
