I think we're expecting the new game mode "Conquest" as well as some Eco tweaking on the 18th...

The game is buggier then before.

More graphical errors such as:

*Non-Functioning map
*Broken "compass"
*Black Screen of death
*Yellow Screen of death
*Missing HUD
*Stuck in over heating screen
*And MORE

If you like these new "features", you will enjoy coming back.

Not now. play next monday into tuesday and after (if you like it)...there is supposedly a large patch next week with a new game mode and new mechs and some fixes.

But of course, if you want to get back into the swing of things, by all means, start earlier.

Yes it is, the forums will say this is an abomination of the mechwarrior/battletech franchise. Don;t believe the flame/QQers,

Not so much an abomination as a poorly designed game. Sure... the micro level mechanics such as the combat is good... but everything else is poorly designed. The current Map mode never should have been anything other than a placeholder for Alpha.

Add in the simple fact that adding server browsers would solve the afking, PUG vs Premade, disconnect problems, etc and you have devs that can't see good design when they hear about it.

Instead we have devs flailing around trying to solve all these problems instead of the obvious solution which is to give players the choice as to where they will be playing.

Don't know why they thought they could get away with making WoT w/ Mechs with such a beloved franchise and not be called out on it.

I better be able to choose to play Conquest only. I am sick of that **** poor map mode called "Assault" (which is a misnomer as there isn't a defending team).

They don't even have a chat lobby for teams yet. I use vent, but sometimes I want to type something instead of talking over other people.

If you got bored during beta, don't come back until sometime next year. the game really hasn't evolved much beyond beta so far.and you need to be a die hard fan to get much enjoyment out of it at the moment.

On the other hand, games free, doesn't cost you anything to find this out for yourself.

I got bored in beta just like you OP. For me it was because of the constant cbill and mc resets, and the complete lack of penalty for dashing around in a Hunchback laser boat. I had cbills coming out of my ears and not enough stuff to spend it on. A few weeks ago I checked back in and noticed the game had gone open beta so I gave it a go with a friend of mine.

The friend quit in the first week because founders were wrecking him with their fancy mechs, and he wasn't able to save up enough money to buy a decent non-trial mech as a starter - No, a Commando is NOT a good starter mech! I believe he fancied a Hunchback SP.

However, for anyone who played in the closed beta, the catch-up will be much easier. I'm working my way through the Raven variants to max out my skills as a scout pilot and then i'll probably expand my mechbay for Heavies (of which I currently own an Ilya). For me having the MC to immediately buy a good starter mech was incredibly important, and the developers really need to look at some kind of expedient way for first time players to get their first mech / first x million cbills.

The economy in place currently favours cautious loadouts if you're running in PUGs, and may take some getting used to. Repairing an XL engine with endo-steel internals and ferro fibrous armour can be very expensive, so you need to make some sound tactical choices on the battlefield or you will be grinding cbills with the trial mechs in no time.

Personally after the ECM patch I'm really enjoying the game, ECM has added an extremely potent-although-overpowered tactical component to the mix which also helped tone down some of the cheesier mech loadouts. I've also began to dig my win/loss ratio out of the ground and I think my skills as a light pilot have improved. I'm watching the cash shop with keen eyes, because I have abso-*******-lutely no plans to stick around if they ****** it up the way ArenaNet screwed GuildWars 2 - my previously favourite game, but right now (other than the hilariously stupid christmas upgrades) it's looking reasonable with a hint of iffy.

I'd definitely give it a go OP, but maybe find a group to play with or play at off-peak times where there aren't too many 2-3-4 man premades around, as the matchmaking system isn't restrictive enough to counter-balance even a 2 man premeditated mech configuration (e.g. guaranteed 2xECM on a team before any of the other mechs have been assigned is a big buff).

Oh yeah, and give serious consideration to activating that premium boost if you decide to stick around ;)

Ok thanks for the comments, they were very useful. I also notice that the way people talk about the game became kind of more objective and relaxed than before. I have expected lots of hostile comments of people who defend the game without realizing its weak points (or pretending there are none...).
What is this ECM stuff about?
Concerning the C-Bill stuff: I was wondering wethere they plan (or have already implemented) something which motivates people to go to battlefield with expensive equipment. Loosing money but still winning vs strong opponents could be rewarded with something else than money (rank, XP, unique clan weapons and so on).

Putting a strong advantage on founders is really a bad thing. I also dislike the fact that there are still no more gamemodi. I mean seriously: what are they working on all the time? I hope not graphics or something useless like that... hearing that the matchmaking system is still bad is also annoying. I thought this was an issue for months now...
Well but I guess I will give it a try over Chrismas again. I just love mechs :)

If you were bored before you will be bored now. There has not been any significant content added. (I say significant, because Xmas lights and new mechs don't add that much to the game as a whole.) We still have 1 game mode and 4 basic maps. Those are major glaring issues that lead to premature boredom.

Not to mention this game has no point...no purpose...no goal. :)

The game IS much better than it was.

Having said that, it is still not up to par on what many people's standards are. A good time to come back might be mid-January as there will be a new 'mech (Stalker) new game mode (Conquest) and many new players since the fall school semester will be over for many college students.

<S>

The Stalker and Conquest are coming mid-December, not mid-January. December 18th, to be exact.

So come on back, OP. The game has changed.

You're just going to quit again, it's the exact same game.

Same bugs, same crappy framerates, same builds, except now there's ECM(It's more like God ECM than Guardian ECM, tbh)

Nothing's been implemented to make it more fun and none of the bugs have been fixed, PGI works SLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW. So it's up to you.

This game with 10-15 maps and multiple game modes would be pretty awesome. This game with 1 game mode and 4 maps is really just a tarted up demo with a cash shop. Still fun to play if you are a MW or BT fan, but very repetitive.

^THIS- out of all the complaints, this is the one that really sums up where MWO is at. I have been having a lot of fun with the game, but it needs more maps and needs more playmodes badly, and it needs a few more mechs and modules to round it out.

For me, it's fun enough that I can wait until more comes out...and we are supposed to get a new playmode next week. For you, since you played the CB, you will have fun with some of the changes but will probably be disappointed by the lack of other changes.

I would recommend waiting another month or two. The game right now is adding features but it is falling backwards in many areas and feels less polished than it did a month ago.

Reason being there have been some balance bungles> Artemis, now ECM that feel like two people are fighting over the wheel of the car. Both trying to put it into the ditch but arguing over which side of the road to go off.

Cash shop ripoffs - cammo specs that are overwritten when you buy a new one rather than being unlocks.

Mechlab ripoffs - Endosteel, Ferrofibrous and Double Heatsinks are not unlocks, you have to pay every time you swap back and forth.

New engine troubles - performance has risen for some, dropped for others, become unstable for yet others.

Some truly creative new problems like the overlay disappearing or your icon on the map showing you running backwards.

Overall they should have kept it in closed beta. Since they are now on the market in terms of their cash shop they are saying to the world they are ready to be judged as a for sale product.... they are not correct.
