Do People Not Know This Is Beta?

Almost every thread I read someone in there states that they can't believe PGI did something without testing it first. Do these people not understand that we are the testers? Everyone playing right now is a beta tester. I have seen some people argue that it stopped being beta when they started charging for things. I have been playing since open beta started and I haven't been charged anything. If someone chooses to pay money for a beta game that was their decision, they where not charged anything.
I have also noticed on the forums how people think that by insulting PGI and the devs they can get things changed. If there is something about the game you don't like or think isn't working the way it should then by all means make a post about it, we are beta testers and it is our job to do so. The devs need to know how we feel about the game not how we feel about them. If they read a post that insults them they are not going to take it seriously. When you post, state what the problem is, state what if any ideas you have to fix it and do it with without insulting the devs or anyone else and they might actually listen to what you have to say.

I don't think people have a clue about a lot of things, including the difference in testing internally and when you put it on the server. Bugs happen and anyone who knows programming knows this.
If people would start leaving constructive criticism instead of just complaining it would be a lot better.

Here comes the "It's Beta!!", "It's not Beta if they're taking money!!" arguments.

I agree that when a game says Beta, closed or open, that the game is subject to change and things need fixing.

Well people are paying money to play, the only way to get a hero mech. That makes it retail.

To pay money and call this beta would be the same as someone playing SW: TOR right now and calling that beta.

In my opinion, the lashback PGI and the devs are getting is because of the marketing. It isn't marketed as a beta. When I see all the ads on FB and other sites, no where does it say its beta. They are advertising it as a finished product. But it isn't.

They should have waited until beta is over to market the **** out of this game.
until then, they should have kept it for the core players / founders.

OK, look, here's the problem.

*When I install a patch and the first thought in my mid is "gee what new bugs are in this one, what old bugs will suddenly resurface, what undocumented changes will occurs"

*The development team releases ninja patches that they fail to even acknowledge what they are attemping to fix so we don't even know what to say to them like "yea, you fixed it" OR "no, I am still experiancing it"

Is more of an alpha or a closed beta mind set. Not a point in the game where you are selling virtual christmas lights for a virtual mech in a freaking game, that seems to be developed like a bunch of college students just pushing out code as fast as they can while screaming "to hell with proper documentation!" for more than REAL christmas lights.

When it was in closed beta I said "hey, it's beta, random things are going to pop up." But then they go open, with massive money grabs left and right, and this has to be one of the WORST open betas I've seen in a damn long time. Minecraft beta was only worse than this and that was when just one guy was doing all the programming.

"beta" ended the moment this product went public and they accepted money. After that, you can pretend its "beta" all you want but the tag does not apply.

If you want, you can call EVERY product out there that still has support a "beta." Of course at that point the "beta" tag is meaningless.

i think everyone knows that it's still a beta ( instabilities and changes included ;) )

Nevertheless you have to understand that people might get a bit frustrated if they crash, freeze, whatever too often ....

Disclaimer: insulting the devs (or anyone really) is neither helpful nor justified. After all they aren't slowing things down/ add bugs on purpose.

This game will be in "Beta" forever at this rate.

Pretty safe to say that for all intents and purposes, the game is live.

I agree it is a Beta, but, please, let us not get into the Beta/Not Beta discussion since this will result in nothing useful.
We have a slew of these threads +100000 and nothing good or useful comes of it.

They are working on getting a public test server for people to test stuff on.
Hopefully, that will improve things.

regardless of whether you consider it to be beta or "I've paid money so I'm entitled to scream at you PGI" release... actually just screaming at PGI won't get anything done any quicker

but it is quite funny to come on the forums to kill some time at work and read all the QQ rage-quit threads about things that will be entirely changed in the next 1-2 months

I guess the demand is a pefect game for free and instandly. Most people just lack the nowadays "uncommon" sense.

Yes this is beta, yes, it is still in development, bla bla blah...
But since it is;
1. not feature complete (far from it)
2. extremely buggy (with more bugs being introduced with each patch than bugs being eradicated)
3. severely lacking in any meaningful polish
4. much lower in overall quality than most other games being marked as beta/alpha (Hawken, DayZ even?)
5. containing very little content for the money
It feels more like an alpha than a beta.

What is making matters worse is exactly what the others are saying. It is not being really marketed as a beta, plus PGI is charging exorbitant amounts for premium content right now. Us founders feel like we may have gotten the game off it launch rock, but we don't feel like it's reached space yet. It feels like it's struggling to reach afterburners than even being in the sky.

What makes this beta to me is I am stuck as a Lone Wolf, I only have 4 maps (6 if you count environmental conditions). A capture the base Mission has no incentive to perform the Capture. It isn't on Coventry, I am not getting something unique to Coventry Metal Works. I have not heard, "This is Star Col, Dumas *****, of Clan Fluffy Bunny..."
So to paraphrase Leonidas, "THIS IS BETA." All spittle included. ;)
