Ok, here is my question.
From the Tabletop I have seen that the ECM equipement are only applying their
effects when a target is in the area of effect.
For the online game, that's partially how it works. I have no troubles about the fact that
a mech having the ECM is shielding his friends, that's what it is supposed to do.
What I'm wondering is WHY a mech that I have in visual, at 200-400m away
is impossible to target with missiles because there are no brackets around them.
But when that same mech reach under 180m, getting me under it's ECM radius
and applying the effects, the brackets appears and I can target the guy with my missiles.
Seems something is working the wrong way. I was not remembering an ECM that was
200m+ away was supposed to be "invisible" to the LRM targeting computers.
Or it's working as intended ?

By design, they had the interns design the ecm for this game. I am hoping the real Dev's realize their mistake and get in and clean it up.

ECM is working as intended - they meant to have a 1.5 ton 2 slot piece of equipment counter
Artemis
BAP
Tag bonuses
NARC - a system which weighs more and requires real skill, and teamwork to use.
other ECMs
LRM locks
SRM locks
general targeting info
relegate AMS to almost pointlessness
have no exploding ammo
generate no heat
cost less than a module by a factor of 15
See? Working as intended.
Wait... no that's absurd....

It is very simple.
In TT LRMs and Streaks do not require a "Sensor Lock" to fire. In MWO they do. The side effect of ECM is to cut the range of active sensors, (this is a Double Blind rule so you have to look at those and not just the equipment rules for ECM) but with how PGI implemented LRMs and Streaks you need sensors to lock on targets inadvertently adding additional functionality to ECM. Fix the LRMs and Streaks and the ECM problem goes away.

My experiance has been different depending on the missiles used..
If I'm outside the 180m I can get missile lock with streaks, if I'm inside 180m of any enemy ECM I cant.
If I'm inside 180m with LRM's i can get locks, if I'm outside 180m LRM I cant..
Confusing to say the least
