So I think a good module would be one that partially integrates thermal vision with the regular HUD.

What I have in mind is you hit H once for enhanced thermals, and then once again for full thermals. One more push reverts to normal vision.

When in enhanced thermal mode, anything over a certain temperature (i.e. battlemech temperature) would show up with a slight glow on the HUD. It would get tricked by things like fires of course, just like regular thermals.

I think it would help snipers and long-range support builds the most, allowing them to see if they have a clean shot and what parts they can hit. Scouts could also get good use from it, so that mechs stand out a bit more, but they can still see the terrain for better maneuvering.

Thoughts? Do you like the general idea? Would you use something like this? Am I a super genius or just a regular genius? ;)

I like it. Like you said, especially useful for scouts and snipers, but some utility for nearly any mech. It might take a bit of tuning to get the heat bloom just right (it should still be a bit blurry, though not so much as regular heat vision) and of course it should have a toggle.

Pretty cool idea. I'd save up some c-bills for this.

I'd rather they fix advanced zoom first, though.

I say no, it's not a canon capability, plain and simple.

Sounds like a decent concept. Though, wasn't some sort of additional view mode supposed to come eventually, a Magnetic Resonance view or something? Does anyone else recall that?
