I dunno, and this is only anecdotal first hand experience, but it *seems* to me that in the past 2 weeks or so friendly fire has just gone crazy.

Did we get an influx of wild-eyed trigger-happy ******* with no fire control discipline, or am I seeing things?

I have noticed it's much more common for people to be blindly running in between me and my target when I'm obviously firing.

I assume it's for 2 reasons:

1. They want those sweet, sweet increased damage payouts and don't care what they have to do to get them.

2. No repair costs to make them think twice about whether it's worth it.

Yeah i've noticed a big increase in randoms trying to shoot through me to get that last kill shot rather than wait for you to finish passing them.

Increased use of heat vision and the difficulties in distinguishing where one mech ends and the other begins due to ECM proliferation.

I don't know if the friendly marking is 100% up to snuff in nightvision mode. Add in the night maps and viola.

My system is a beast, but sometimes other players lag...honest he was standing where I fired when I pulled the trigger.

And there seem to be alot of yahoos who don't know how to circle with a team member or let them clear before firing. Smarter pilots in lights take advantage of this.

I just TK'd a poor fellow because of this. Charged an in-trouble Atlas blindly while 4 teammates were already circling him firing and got a volley of SRM's in the back. I always feel bad about it, but you gotta watch where you're going and others need to learn how to group fire.

What did you expect when ECMs are jamming everyone and everyone fights in a nice big backally brawl like a mob during fightclub night? Tactical play is gone and long range combat is largely pointless now.

Also add Boredom and general end of patience for people getting in their way etc. Yes i know that last one goes both ways (dont shoot someone crossing your path, dont cross paths) but people are probably at the point of saying F it, no repair costs gg blast away.

I've got almost zero tolerance to FF now, if i take substantial damage im going to blow their arms off to get them to stop shooting.

Actually, wouldn't this create for more tactical play if you have to recognize who is on your team, where the ECM mech is, and how to take it out?

That sounds more like people need to think to me.

I will stay on the trigger when I have an enemy in my sights, so when a Hunchback blastin' four red beams of death steps in front of me to snag a kill shot I have no qualms about coring that person out. I actually get a lot of enjoyment out of it... New players just need to understand how to do the big boy mech dance, and not cut a team mate off, then I wouldn't have to send them to the scrapyard.

And how are you supposed to recognize who's on your team, when it's 2 mechs inside an ECM bubble duking it out?
IFF tells you nothing.

1: I accept any and all damage I take from both sides as I zig zag through a brawl coring out someone's CT.
2: I accept any and all responsibility for anyone I hit in a game.
3: Pinpoint accuracy is awesome until lag catches up and my teammates move 4 meters forward and 2 meters vertical instantly.

As for an increase in FF, I wouldn't know since I recently returned to MWO from a break of necessity. There's does seem to be a lot of it, but I notice most of the FF I catch I can blame on myself, and most of the FF I deal is because of the mass furball circle I like to call "Spin Cycle". I am learning now, of necessity and prudence, to avoid "Spin Cycle". In the next week I am expecting to see my FF taken and dealt decrease significantly.

But I still can't fix sudden lag and will take clear, if tight, shots on open internals.

Yes with ECM tactics and Recognizing your teammates is even more important than ever

You can get closer or zoom in if your in a team with your own group. If your in a pug then you'll have to do some guess work. If you carry a tag you can use that tag to identify the enemy outside of their 180 bubble. If you don't carry a tag you might consider getting one.

I have to agree that the FF has gone up quite a bit. A lot less of the opening matches where everyone and their urban mech cousin shoots to see pretty lasers and then see a lot of guys (including myself) get their back armor burned or shot off. A lot more of the in-game kill stealing to the point that one mech with smoke billowing out, arms blown off, and no or few weapons is the biggest priority and everyone runs in to get that final shot. To the point where some even, I believe, purposely run in front of their teammates to block their shots for a better chance at the kill. So, ya lots of FF now and the only thing I can think that will change peoples minds are actually negatives for shooting your teammates... and very large ones for FF killing (I'm hoping for exp and c-bill losses.) Just my thoughts and two c-bills...

Been seeing an increase in friendly fire myself.

The causes seem to be trigger happy team mates and a general lack of caution when crosing fields of fire.

I got a team kill the other day because a team mate in a Raven run between an enemy Atlas and my Dragon that were no more than 15m apart at the time and stopped.The Raven took a gauss round and exploded and as a result I came up a smidge short on the damage for the kill and was taken down sortly afterwards by the Atlas.
The result of this poor tactical choice was 2 dead mechs and an enemy Atlas still in action that I would have likely destroyed before it got me if the raven hadn't been ablative armor for the enemy.

I have also experience a significant increase in damage sustained at the drop zone.

since patch I have done Team Kills from my LRM fire, usually when the target died right before missiles hit and team mate was next to target. Never happened to me before patch.

I just dropped some fool "team mate" who decided to celebrate the start of the match by circling the nearest friendly and dumping ultras into it endlessly.
