Wed. May 16, 3049: A militaristic symbol of the FedCom alliance, a year since its release the AXM-1N Axman generally maligned by pilots.

It's maligned by pilots because the Full-Head Ejection system has not yet been expanded to eject the rest of the pilot... still a work-in-progress.

Breakdown of Labor - The Davions built the Electronics, Engine, and the FCS while the Lyrans created a unique cockpit that allows a Hatchetman piloted by a Commando to pilot the Axman.

The Axeman varriant (AXM-2N) in the Summerset Strikers book had an interesting idea, replace the AC/20 and give it x2 LRM -15 with ammo. Not bad for fire support and long range ingagements. Wouldn't mind piloting that mech in the online game.

"AWS-10KM - The newest variant is a joint project between IBMU and Alshain Weaponry and was introduced in 3067. The 'Mech utilizes Irian's Compact Engine and Compact Gyro to save space at the expense of mass. It retains the speed and ECM of the 9Q, but utilizes an Endo Steel structure. Two Heavy PPCs deal a good amount of damage in each blow, while a Snub-Nose PPC is deadly and accurate at close range. BV (2.0) = 1,961"

Axman? Does it means the game will have (eventually) melee damage? It would be the first in Mechwarrior series AND it would make old TT players go crazy.

Seriously, if the Axman appears as the Battlemech 11, I will die. Die of happiness, of course.

Odanan i'm not an old TT player but i do love the Axman, so absolutely happy if they add it.

P.S: i think the way to make melee dmg it's just like a normal dmg just with some retarded range like 10-15meters top, so you already know what's going on if a *melee* mech approach way too much.

I think the ISN news is just that the inner sphere news from this period of time in canon history. I dont think it is meant to reflect exactly what they want/can put into the game now or in the future.

That said I hope they eventually can do a good representation of melee. It would be fun.

I have reason to believe that much of the criticism for this otherwise fine and perfectly functional battlemech is due to the fact that, despite it's fitting name, it does not shoot axes. Sure, it's armed with one, but what people REALLY want is to be able to propel large, bladed things at each other through some means, and what better way than to do so whilst in a massive robotic body that weighs many tons and, throughout history, has been armed with many ranges of weaponry. It is true, of course. I myself would much enjoy the feel of pulling the trigger on my battlemech and seeing a torrent of axes spinning and hurtling towards my opponents, as I am sure many, many others would as well. The pilots creating the criticisms may also be finding it difficult to be able to use said axe due to it not being able to fire and having to get close which may not be a part of their standard tactics, or due to my previous mention of the Axman simply not being able to fire axes in the first place, which is the more likely of cases. Henceforth, they are unable to compromise and, rather than address the problem or deal with the situation, complain about it.

Perhaps the Axman will one day be able to mount said weapon and spew whirling instruments of death at opponents, but until then, we must make due and simply reach out and touch our targets instead. Hard, and blade first, of course.

The only thing I have against an Axman is the XL engine, but then again you couldn't fit that awesome facehammercannon in the torso if it didn't have the XL. Just hope you close and kill before you get the side torso blown up!

The only time I have ever read anything about a Mech throwing anything was a story posted in one of the BattleTechnology magazines. They are considered non-cannon. The story stated that an Atlas walked up to a Locus that was ravished in battle. The Locus's center torso was destroyed and the Atlas picked up the leg/torso/arm section and throw it 30 meters at an enemy Mech. While a Mech can pick up 10% of its weight and use it a club. It cannot throw an item. A Locus is 20Tons. So cut in half is less than 10 tons. TT rules say you can only use limbs that have been Blown Off.

"The Axman, introduced in 3048, is designed exclusively to be a 'Mech killer. The 'Mech gets its name and one of its two main weapons from a massive Hatchet that is carried by the 'Mech that allows it to cleave through the armor of an enemy 'Mech. The 'Mech was designed by Team Banzai following the highly successful Hatchetman. The Axman is also intended as a symbol of solidarity throughout the Federated Commonwealth by using components that are produced in Davion, Steiner, and even former Liao space. The 'Mech has a ground speed of only 64.8 km/h, which is slow for a 'Mech of its weight, but average for the Heavy weight class. The 'Mech is covered with eleven tons of Ferro-Fibrous armor that gives it a great deal of protection. The 'Mech is designed to utilize the Full-Head Ejection System to safe-guard its MechWarrior."

In 3049 the AXM-2N came out - "The 2N variant of the Axman introduced in 3049 has been called a mistake by some and a stroke of genius by others. The 2N carries two LRM-15 launchers in place of the massive Autocannon/20 as the autocannon often jammed on early models. While this changes the 'Mechs role from a city fighter to a long-range bombardment 'Mech, it also allows the Axman to be a support 'Mech that can defend itself with its massive Hatchet at ranges where the LRM-15s are ineffective if an enemy closes ."
