IDK if anyone cares, but I noticed something strange the other day. I was getting flamed and my heat wasn't going up at all. Further more I have used flamers on several occasions. In their current state they shoot my heat strait up to 25% the second I hit the trigger and increase it by 1% per second after This seems all bass ackwords and counter intuitive. The description states it is using exhaust heat? As apposed to what? By the very definition exhaust should be expelling already existent waist heat. The flamer is only redirecting that heat...
Canon aside, Flamers currently produce more heat on the mech that is using them for the intention of making the enemy overheat. This is pure idiocy or a bug...which is it?

It's Game-Ballance. You don't raise the heat of enemy mechs, but they can't shed heat either. So if they fire, their heat rises and they could go into shutdown. If they don't fire you are practically neutralizing them. That's how flamers currently work.
They will be changed however, just have a look into the weapon-ballancing thread inside the "Command Chair"...

Flamer are in MWO useless.
Always like it to see enemies with flamers.
Flamer have not been fixed for a long time now. Devs know that they are broken and they are on the to-do-list.
But now you can hit my mech with 4 flamer and I would not heat up.
Was funny to see a 4 flamer cicada trying to heat me up on crater map ( a few weeks ago ).
The Cicada flamed me, Cicada went into a shutdown because of overheating, came back, flamed me, had a shutdown again.... and so on....
My Heat did not move up 1%. Was laughing hard. Stoped to move to be a better target for the enemy cicada and the flamer did nothing to me. Was all the time at 11% Heat. Very funny.
Flamer can be used to blind the enemy and to overheat yourself^^, but that is all. In 1000+ games I never saw it, that a mech could hold an other mech in a perma shutdown, by using flamers.
Best wishes

Flamers cost 0.6 heat per second on the user and inflict up to 0.2 heat per second on the target, plus 0.4 damage per second. They are on par with machine guns for uselessness (0.4 dps but no heat), although if you mount one to the cockpit of an Awesome you certainly look cool.

The only use I've had for them is slapping one on an arm of my Centurion and using it on their cockpit to blind them while I unload 2x SRM6s into their face.
