Until it becomes the final version. Then all that "placeholder" talk will dissappear. Like the xp system. That was a placeholder too, right up till when it became the final version

why cant they just put a smaller version off to the side, so you can aim regular and also look at the picture for longer range stuff?

As far as I can tell, it is actually is rendered twice. I've had the PiP view switch to a person 3rd person kill shot scene when I died while outside the PiP stayed in 1st person the entire time...

Why the hell would you need a zoom module for LRMs? Is the red square that difficult to target?

In any case, it gives you a good enough picture to pick what part of the enemy to shoot at.

I can't believe 94% of voters want to be Alpha'd from all the way across the map.

You gotta be pretty terrible to require zoom to get a missile lock.

I have to admit I have no idea about coding and such, but wouldn't it be the easiest way to simply "switch" the resolutions when the zoom module is activated?

When you are standing on that hill sniping at some mech off in the distance and those 40 artemis LRMs you weren't paying attention to because there was no "incoming missile" message flashing on your screen come slamming into your torso, you'll understand.

Really? I can already alpha quite well with the 3X zoom up to roughly 750m on normal vision and across the map if i use heat vision, so not much of a change. Learn to use cover.
A proper zoom would be helpful, i'm not much into cycling through zoom modes as i never use the 1.5X variant.

i wouldnt mind if they reversed this so that outside the zoom was blurry but inside the "scope" it would be clearer...
or (not quite as good) do like world of tanks and just black out the surrounding area

at least you admit your ignorance...that's the first step

Make a key for Zoom Toggle, you HUD will show 1.5X, 2.0X, 4.0X, and flash a rectangle indicating your field of view when zoomed.
Make a second key that allows you to Zoom in and out.
You would preselect your desired zoom, then use one button to toggle between zoomed and un-zoomed vision. I think this is similar to how it was done in Starsiege: Tribes, and gets around the current zoom system, which sucks anyway.
