Looking for some ideas on how to modify my Founder Catapult (C1) and Founder Hunchback (4G). Looking for more survivability, speed and firepower -- not too interested in turning them into sniper mechs

So -- What Engine? What Armor? What Weapons?

Appreciate your feedback!

The C1 I was always a fan of doing 3 LL with JJ's (but that seems quite under armed now since we got DHS, Endo, etc...)

Try double ERPPC with Artie 6's and JJs. Might get costly though with a big XL, endo and the works.

Should get even better when PGI does fix PPC's, too.

Alternatively, Artie LRMs, JJ's and 2-3 LL should work, too.

Ive used to have my Catapult as an LRM boat, 2 x Lrm 20, and 2 small lasers and a STD 210 engine to make way for more ammo. With the advent of ECM, Ive had to adapt.

My Catapult C1 currently has STD 300 Engine, Endo steel structure, DHS, and a Jump Jet. 4 Medium Lasers and 2 SRM 6s. Full armor, and all extra space slotted with DHS. Ive also kept the atremis. Gives a speed with Speed tweak of 80kph. Makes a good brawler if you've got the space to maneuver, and the Jump Jets give you an advantage. Can be a nasty suprise to mediums/heavies who think they are enaging an LRM boat!, and can see off Lights with a bit of luck. Only disadvantage is no arms, so you'll have problems tracking in a circle of death scenario.

I did try the same build with a STD 260 Engine and 4 Medium Pulse lasers, but found could'nt keep the heat down.

As for my Hunchback, Ive fitted Endo Steel, DHS, 3 Medium lasers and a Gauss Rifle. Good long range power and a nice punch up close. Fitted a smaller engine to it (STD 215 I think) so its abit slow (50kph). Havent tried it since the Glass Gauss patch, (and gauss rifle is on the shoulder and easily hittable) so might have to swap it out for another Ballistic (might see if I can fit an AC 20 on it)

I alternate.

Have run my C1 with 3 erLLAS, 4 MPLAS and 2 SSRMs, 4 MLAS and 2 SRM6s + Artemis etc etc.
The build depends on what I'm feeling at the time. I generally prefer sniping, but I don't mine the brawling either.
I also have a C4 with 2 MPLAS and 4 SRM6s+Artemis. It brings the pain.

I wouldn't add Artemis to a SRM specific build, but both my C1 and C4 have it installed already for LRMs, so I just left it.

As to the HBK, I had decent luck with 2 AC5s, 2 MLAS and staying at a bit of range, however I'm now a big fan of my current set up, which is an AC20, 3 tons ammo, 3 MPLAS and AMS + ton ton ammo.

Also, unless you're short on space, IMO there is NO reason not to have Endo and DHS in everything.

Well for armour. always stay with stock. But, upgrade your structure to endo-steel so you can have more weight available for armour if you wish.

As for weapons for the Cat C1, Med Lasers and SRM's with Arti are always good. And for the Hunch, keep the lasers and switch up the AC/20 for 3 AC/2's or Ultra AC/5's and use them in chain fire. The hunch becomes a great little brawler with that weapon config.

Try an XL300 engine, DHS, 2 LL, 2 Medium lasers and SRM's of your choice (6's, Art4's, Streaks). Also full armor on the legs is a bit of over kill.
Regarding Endo on heavies, well, you can easily run into a crit-slot issue unless you're just doing like 3 heavy energy weapons.

For the hunchie, I'd say give it endo and DHS, replace the SLas with a MLas, get 4 tons of ammo total, max the armor except legs a little, and fill the rest with heatsinks.

The AC20 is the only way to go with this guy IMO, and the 3 MLas will give you a better punch, with the DHS to handle the increased heat.

For the catapult, there are a lot of ways to go. Im not a fan of the energy loadouts, I prefer to stay an LRM boat. The best config ive come up with now that ECM is out is an xl280 engine, LRM 20 and 15 with artemis, 3 mlas, and TAG. Works great, you just have to play aggressivley with your LRMs and get yourself in tag range.

no matter what I do with the hunch, it seems to just be made out of paper, even with all the armor points full (with as much as I have).

The pult, I like with LRm 15s and about 2/3 med lasers.

i run a founders C1 one of two ways:

2x PPC, 2x Med laser. heat sinks and engine to taste. pretend you're a gauss cat and you're only off by a bit of damage with a much better re fire rate. heat isn't too bad on mine. standard engine in mine keeps costs down.

2x LRM-20 w/ Artemis, 4x Medium Laser. i run a XL255 on it, with 8 tons of ammo. heat may seem like a problem, but as long as you don't fire the lasers too much at the same time as the LRM's its actually not so bad.

Upgrade costs a lot and any repair after upgrade is equally expensive. C1 actually is a very good mech. Since you have to buy two additoanl variants to lock elite skills, I would advise you to save the money for the variants. They do need to be modified to be more effective. Just my 2 cents.

My C1 is as follows...

STD Engine 265 (I think) It does just under 70kph with the XP tree done.
2 LLasers
2 MLasers
2 SRM 4s w/ 1 ton ammo
DHS

It's quick (for a heavy) runs a good amount of armor, has a heat efficiency of about 1.3. Hits hard, quick, and relatively cool.

I had 2 Streak 2s, but with all the ECM mechs running around, went to SRM4s.

Founders Cat I got running:
4x Med. Pulse
2x SRM6 or SSRM2 depending on my mood
Endo
2 JJ (for once the update comes someday)

eventually once i can get a 300XL I'll move back to 2 Med pulse and 2 Large Pulse and possibly DHS

Founder Cat.
XL 300
near max armor
21 DHS, Endo, 1xJJ
3x Lg Laser
2x SSRM2

Great support mech. good range, streaks for the ankle-biters (although Lg Lasers do pretty good as well).
