Contrary to what a lot of people think, I like the ECM implementation so far with a few exceptions:
  • Limit ECM mechs during match making: I've been part of far too many teams where the enemy has 3 or more mechs with ECM and we have none.
  • Decrease ECM range significantly: Simply reducing the range will help prevent whole teams from hiding under it's umbrella.
  • NARC is a laser targeting system and should be able to relay the target coordinates to the entire team (assuming the targeting mech is out of the jamming range).

That is all.

You aren't going to see that anytime soon. You have to have ECM imbalance otherwise ECM is pointless. I frankly would not be surprised if the matching system is set to always ensure that is at least a 33% ECM imbalance as much as possible. Imagine if you are in a fight with 3 ECM lights on your side and the opposing team has 3 ECM lights. All of the mechs would counter each other out and you can fire SSRM's and LRM's no problem. The developer doesn't want that.

If you have equal amounts of ECM there is no point of ECM in the first place. The best way to deal with imbalance is to encourage EVERYONE you know to play Raven 3L's w/ ECM. Once the game population breaks 10% playing a single build/chassis, the lead game designer pushing his "vision" of ECM will have to answer to other leaders in the company who want MWO to be a success.

ECM should not be so important as for it to be relative to the match making process. So long as it is (or people feel it needs to be), ECM will be unbalanced.

^This

It shouldn't be as much about what units you drop with. It should be about what you DO WITH the units you drop with. This solution supports the later.

One ECM mech piloted properly should give the team an reasonable answer to the other teams 3-4 (or 8?) ECM.
