concerning how expensive this game can be (hiked MC prices), what have you spent your MC on?? and why??

I have spent about $20 of MC thus far:

YLW (when R&R was in effect, for Bonus CB and to master the Cent)
and 1 extra mech bay (just in case)

I do not see the point or need to waste MC (real money) on in game fluff like paint jobs, bobble heads... as the current in game economy is not friendly to the under waged.

so what have you spent it on, and why??

I've spent MC on almost everything from hero mechs to paintjobs to cockpit fluff...

Hero mechs and converting XP, i refuse to buy paint until you can save it, change it and dont lose it.

Urban mech bobble head... I know... but that's all I've spent my moolah on.

spent it on my Wang (wait that sounds wrong)

a paint job on my keeper the 4SP (also spent MC getting the 4SP)

finally on my new fav hero mech the Fang (best money I've spent so far)

got about just over 7k MC left and holding on to it atm
(or until they sort the high prices on paint jobs)

Bought an Urbie bobblehead and a hula girl. The only other thing worth spending MC on is probably mechbays, but I don't need any at the moment.

Couple Mech bays, a Raven, a Dragon (later since sold, a bad idea in hind sight) and 1 Stalker. Other than that I bought an Urbanmech Bobble Head (it has a top hat and cigar, how could I say no to that?) and a Pranken skin w/ paint job for said Stalker. Sitting on just over 8k right now, probably going to save a good chunk once my Premium Time runs out. May buy one more 'Mech (Cataphract).

Mech XP->GXP Conversion when I'm close to filling up a mech's basic or elite tree.

Bought a CPLT-K2 and the AWS-9M to play with after farming for 2 Atlases.

Bought the Liao Banner.

Accidentally bought Christmas Lights when buying the Liao Banner.

Accidentally bought the HBK-4SP using MC when intending to get it with c-bills.

Bought Coal.

Bought Yen Lo Wang, Ilya Muromets, and Fang (I'll probably get Flame later).

Bought all the cheap cockpit items they released in the 2nd holiday batch.

Bought 16 mechbays so far, I think.

Bought a YLW (I like the paint job, but kind of regret it... the CN9-D is way better, doesn't have the limitation of no missiles), and one mech bay. Will probably reserve the rest of my MC for mech bays unless something useful pops up, as I think Hero mechs are ridiculously overpriced.

Does anyone know... once I've mastered a particular mech, do I still have to keep all 3 of the variants I used for unlocking, or can I sell two of them to release the mech bays?

I spent most of my MC on Atlases, so I could sell them and upgrade my light mechs.
And, of course, paint jobs for my main mechs, cockpit decoration, and EXP conversions.
Oh, and I accidentally bought a Commando with MC, but that wasn't too much of a bother.

Once you have unlocked the stuff you can sell them.
