What I envision happening is that it turns out to be something sort of like what the vapourware of Huxley was supposed to be - all of us versus the game's AI - a PvE slugfest. Nobody can be Clan, nobody can be Victor Steiner-Davion, nobody can be part of a House command. We're all mercenary companies (taking the place of guilds). So all these guys professing to be the leader of House this and House that may very well be in for a rude awakening. I hope everyone (myself included) have a few alternate names picked out for their 'guild' of choice.

I don't see why the developers can't integrate the two. I figure this can be accomplished through two possible methods. I mean, the btech universe is made up of hundreds of different planets that have only been mentioned in name/passing in offical text. I don't see why these planets can't be our canon battlegrounds in mwo. Failing that, why can't the devs just make up their own planets/star systems and from that, their own side stories. After all, the galaxy is huge. I'm sure each main house/faction has a set 'corridor' of contested planets between each other for each year of btech canon history. Either use pre-existing canon planets in those corridors to represent the back-and-forth conquest gameplay, or make up completely new planets to exist in those contested areas.

The same can be said for the clan invasions. Yes, there are planets mentioned in enough detail for us to pinpoint who owned them during whatever year, but the devs can simply make up new planets in the same regions to allow mwo to have its own malleable history.
