The game is released already.
Anything you buy is final. No resets, or anything.

Released game is released game, is released game.

Oh, you mean WoW was an open beta, since they kept adding features and content, and still are to this day? I didn't know!

Those are 'expansions' that you had to pay to get, as I understand.

Regardless, the Devs will get this game fully fixed sometime in the near future (hence, they label the game a beta). All this complaining is nothing but pounding sand.

After reading all of the reply's; I can see I can't get my facts and opinions straight, so I'll just state the obvious
-I supported this game; with the HOPE it wouldn't munch me in the butt
-I did munch on me in several ways, and this topic makes me bleed the most.
-BUT, like my pet, I won't just shoot it to make it stop biting me.
-I'm going to instead continue to support it because it's just a puppy.
-AND pay $30 for a new chew toy(Ilya Muromets *munchmunch*)

and the forum won't let me type the words bite and me next to each other

Some would argue 2+2=5.

the word "beta" is not defined in the dictionary in terms of software testing

http://dictionary.re...browse/beta?s=t

beta

be·ta [bey-tuh or, esp. British, bee-] Show IPA
noun
1.
the second letter of the greek alphabet (β, B).
2.
the consonant sound represented by this letter.
3.
( initial capital letter ) Astronomy . a star that is usually the second brightest of a constellation: The second brightest star in Taurus is Beta Tauri.
4.
Chemistry .
a.
one of the possible positions of an atom or group in a compound.
b.
one of two or more isomeric compounds.
5.
the second of any series, as in chemistry or physics.
6.
Also called beta coefficient, beta line. Stock Exchange. an arbitrary measure of the volatility of a given stock using an index of the volatility of the market as a whole: A beta of 1.1 indicates a stock that is 10 percent more volatile than the market.
7.
( initial capital letter ) Trademark. a brand of tape format for VCR tape, incompatible with other formats. Compare VHS.
8.
Chiefly British . a grade showing that a student is in the middle or second of three scholastic sections in a class. Compare alpha ( def 7 ) , gamma ( def 9 ) .

Now, when taking the slang definition into consideration is says this:

Slang Dictionary
beta

/bay't*/, /be't*/ or (Commonwealth) /bee't*/ n.
1. Mostly working, but still under test; usu. used with `in': `in beta'. In the Real World, systems (hardware or software) software often go through two stages of release testing: Alpha (in-house) and Beta (out-house?). Beta releases are generally made to a group of lucky (or unlucky) trusted customers.
2. Anything that is new and experimental. "His girlfriend is in beta" means that he is still testing for compatibility and reserving judgment.
3. Flaky; dubious; suspect (since beta software is notoriously buggy).

So, as a beta is considered mostly working but still under test, how is MWO not a beta?
care to explain how the definition is wrong and youre right?

Actually, Merriam Webster ("the" dictionary) defines "beta" as...

Quote

Definition of BETA

1: the 2d letter of the Greek alphabet — see alphabet table

2: beta particle

3: a measure of the risk potential of a stock or an investment portfolio expressed as a ratio of the stock's or portfolio's volatility to the volatility of the market as a whole

4: a nearly complete prototype of a product (as software)<released in beta> <the beta version>

Examples of BETA
  • a program that is currently in beta

No one can say this product is a "nearly complete prototype", so it's not yet a "beta". An "alpha" only means the first of something (not going to post all the same definitions here), and since that isn't the case it isn't quite an alpha.

However, let's look at M-W's definition of "retail"...

Quote

Definition of RETAIL

: the sale of commodities or goods in small quantities to ultimate consumers; also: the industry of such selling

As WE ARE the ultimate consumers and they are in fact selling goods in small quantities to us, this IS a retail product.

Therefore, what we have is a RETAIL PRE-BETA.

Seems more to me like its a released MMO. Theyre never "finished" before they launch, the lack of resets upon launch (or imo the liklihood they ever take this game out of beta - I just dont see a point to doing it not that I dont think it will last) the selling of MC the padding of the MC market, the DHS situation where we werent even allowed to TEST it, they just threw the "it breaks the game" thing out there all seems to add up to a release than a beta

I would like to hang a cow sign on every bull in a paddock full of bulls, then ask you to milk them.

The difference here is, they are the game creators. They have the right to name they're own creation. You didn't create bulls.

Its not rocket science...

Evil dead is a great example of this. Dude that made it said it was a horror movie. Its a comedy.
It was "released" as a horror movie
It was recieved as a comedy.
It is now a comedy.

What you CALL IT only goes SO FAR.

Actually, you can argue this.

You merely redefine what the symbols '2', '5', '+', and '=' mean.

I know this is frustrating, but Buddah brings up an important point on the importance of communication.

I could be the most brilliant man in the world, but - if I can't communicate what I know - I'm as dumb to the world as the village idort.
