The Devil Dogs work practicing our 8-man drops (not a lot of experience got stomped by Jade Falcon and a couple other groups) and our lance leader commented he did his best target calling and commanding once he had died. He went on to explain that he just kept swapping from view to view to see what was going on from everyones perspective to help call targets and determine were to get the lance to move
I was thinking it might be a neat module/component (maybe both) to have a second pilot in the atlas with a command console of sorts. This pilot would only be able to see first person perspectives of mechs in the group that were in comm (ie ECM would block the command/view abilities) This would free up the commander to call targets and get a feel for the battle space to allow enhanced targeting and movements of lances

Or allow a picture in picture view of what each pilot is looking at?
(Smaller pictured view of the spectate option for a module you described)

So, an Atlas would be a 2 man team and a Lance with an Atlas would be a 5 man group? If a person want to sit in a mech and not do anything but maintain a tactical overview, I suppose that would be ok.
Personally, I would prefer the battlemap get fixed so it can be pinned outside the game on a different monitor or make it more useful to a mech with a C3 command module installed.

If you guys are the 666th from PlanetSide 2, sorry about the CJF stomping the other night D:, I'll be sure to revive you if I see you on Auraxis next time lol.
The pilot modules were pretty heavy, 4 tons and pretty expensive. I think if you are going to let ECM counter it, the system will be extremely screwed, not able to operate 90% of the time and garner no real gain through the risk. Also we have to think if this connection will cause any instability for the netcode on that one mech possibly? With 2 pings running at once the hitbox could be in two different places if I am not mistaken... Or the lag shield may be stronger with this one.

I believe i'd suggested similar in TS Staple . Command module , the Command variant Atlas and a commander position allowing the "co-pilot" or "commander" to manage the battlespace from a 3rd person as well as crosscom type of view. As for the command "lance" it's still a four man lance , usually containning two support mechs IE: missles and long range.

The Command Console enhanced cockpit would be an excellent option for the Atlas. It was known as one of the primary mechs to make use of this rare option, as was the unseen BattleMaster. Considering that the spectator view is already a standard part of MWO, I would think that it would not be a difficult module to add to the game. Such an high-target-value Atlas would certainly require escorts...
Of similar note, adding the Cyclops to the game with its complete battlefield intelligence and communications module would be another great enhancement.
