With the upcoming release of the stalker, I don't see the awesome really making much of a battlefield appearance. It will have underwhelming firepower compared to the two assault classes. A majority of variants also move at breakneck snail speed. With the stalker filling the long range boating role, what do you do with the awesome besides an 8mil cbill dust collector?

The 9M will of course still have a strong role as the only 'fast' assault.
for the rest, I suppose you will need to maximize their use of arm-mounted weaponry, since that seems to be their main advntage compared to the Stalker (which lacks elbows). Swinging the arms arund will give the Awesome a much wider field of fire.
How many modules slots do the Awesome have? We havent' seen the Stalker yet but it's possible they will have different number of modules.
Upcoming 'mech tweaks' will probably also play a key role in differentiating otherwise similar chassis

9m is fantastic, return of the fast awesomes that many said were OP back in the day...but faster, and more heavily armed, easy to put up 400-900+ damage games all day long. I do as well if not better in my 9m then in an atlas brawler spec'd for 70+ dmg alphas strikes....
Beyond that though the others are kind of lacking because they don't have the armor to allow them to be survivable at such slow speeds without some extremely smart piloting/backup. They're pretty much only good as srm boats, and Lrm boats...so as close in heavy support, and long range support fire.
I feel like they need to make them faster.....an Awesome doing under 70kph...is a dead awesome the way most people try to pilot them. To be fair though that is part of the problem with the Awesomes...The way they need to be played if they aren't fast is counter intuitive to how many will try to play them.....like a true assault mech, and they end up dead pretty fast most times.
With someone as a distraction a slow awesome can often escape being the focus of battle and lay down a tremendous amount of fire power....so you need to work with your team to make sure you aren't the focus of battle...but the heavy hitter that slips in behind the E and alphas them in the back with 78 damage, or is there when they turn to run, it is straight into you....and you punch them in the face...and they die.

biggest problem with the slow awesome is they barely carry more armor than a Catapult, but don't enjoy the much higher top speed or the ridiculous magical hitboxes that disregard 50% of incoming damage that the Catapult has [Cats, Centurions, Jenners, Ravens, and Cicadas all enjoy this, additionally the fast lights have lagshields with compound this effect]
There's just something about those mechs' hitboxes that makes them much more survivable than they should be, it's why Centurions are such a **** to put down, try it sometime, get a team with equally armored and armed Cents and Hunchbacks to be shot at, the Cent will generally survive far longer. I've driven centurions through entire enemy teams of relatively competent mechwarriors and come out with only moderate damage even though I took enough hits to kill me at least twice over.
Awesomes have hitboxes that work properly, and are also just huge in generasl, but don't carry enough armor to compensate like the Atlas does, so they die very fast.
Incidentally, I'm not sure, but the Stalker has such a similar layout to the Catapult it will most likely enjoy this same awful hit registration and prove to be far more durable than it should, especially with the tiny side torsos allowing it to mount XL engines in an Assault mech with near impunity.

I think youre wrong. Its the Stalker that really has nothing to offer. The Awesome-9M gets upto 80kph while still mounting just as many weapons as the Stalker can feasibly use due to heat limitations.

Unless it is a 9M trade it for an Atlas maybe?
