it would only take one additional variable and maybe 5 lines of code, so its obviously WAY beyond PGI's capabilities to implement.

If it's random, and every map gets the same odds, your pretty lucky of your getting the same map over and over again Isay

I don't know how it works, but it's not a rotation, because that would prevent getting the same map several times in a row. I've played the same map up to four matches in a row in a team of four so however it works it feels neither organized nor random.

It doesn't help that we now have two version of several maps, because even if it is a different map....it mostly feels the same.

It wouldn't be random if you never got the same map several times in a row.

The maps are randomly selected when a Dedicated Servers kicks off a match, there is no rotation.

Now it would be something if folks applied that same thought process to creating THREADS... LOL :P OMG!

You need to check your randomizer or the seed because it is VERY common to get the same map time after time...it goes in phases where 9 out of 10 will be the same map but when you leave and come back, a new map is the "map of the day". But it is not random.

I was going to say It has to be random, before I read Brian's answer. Same chance to get any map.. I've gotten Caustic Valley seven times In a row before.

Technically, you could get the same map 100 times In a row!

Back on the subject of maps, Ive now started quiting games, Just becace i am sick to death of playing the same boring map over and over again
Will we ever get to chose what maps we want to play?
Frozen city and Forest Colony and its million different variants, get stuck playing these the most
Gaustic vally, Proberly the best map in the game, very rarely get to play it
River city, Anouther great least played map

Right now, Caustic Valley is probably more rare because it is the only map without a variant. If they treat each map variant as unique in the random selection process, you would see it half as often as any of the other maps (when considering both variants they have). This will be resolved when Caustic's alternate mode is introduced.

Amen. It is indeed annoying. How hard would it be to allow a lobby meister and choose a map?

Sheesh.

Seriously dude you just became my hero, I just bought you a beer for that... I mean I drank it cause this is the internet and I'm not pouring beer into my computer in the hopes that through some weird random Quantum shift would get it to you (because Quantum Theory tells us that anything can happen at any time for any reason) but seriously isn't it the thought that counts anyway....

random my butt!!! iv had to play frozen city for 5 matches in a row. of all the maps i hate the bloody blizzard map, once in a while is fine but 5 to 7 times in a row is so painful. 5 games playing in thermals only is sooo boring.

It's the same as when someone goes on a 6 dot streak in boardgames, really. You could prove problem in the system only if you had a really large pool of matches categorised and it was severly lopsided.

Amen, I have found that whichever map I hate the most is the one I am forced to play...over and over....

I particularly dislike River City by night and Blizzard by day.

What is this, quadrant Purgatory?

I mean, come on.

That's actually very possible with random things. The very nature of random means things can happen in streaks or not. It does not mean that streaks won't happen.

Look at it this way: at minimum there are 4 groups of players in normal matches (two 4-man teams on each side) - so when the server picks a map at random it is almost guaranteed that one of those groups just played their previous match on the same map. Thus someone will always be complaining that they 'just played a match on this stupid map'... but statistically, over time, I suspect you will see a breakdown very close to 1/7 for each of the map variants. Don't believe me? Try it - for a week or so, not just one night (you need a reasonable sample size). If a couple people do that and there are no observable trends then maybe we can finally put this subject to bed.
