Subject suggests a lot of what I have a confusion on; but let me put it as simply as I can without the wall of text.

Light/medium Mech has 4 medium lasers and two streaks; Heavy and Assault has the same layout (not that this would necessarily happen, but just go with me for a moment).

Aside from engine size, assuming they both have the same size for a moment, if both had DHS, the heat would be the same.

Why is this?

This seems to be a balance issue that bleeds into a lot of other issues surrounding light mechs in general and some mediums, that they can seemingly dish out just as much damage for the same cost in heat as higher classes of chassis'.

Is my point coming across?

If a Jenner with 4 mediums and 2 streaks had to suffer from more heat than a Hunch with the same load out because the hunch could mount one more DHS due to increased space availability, wouldn't that balance things out a little more?

P.S. this is not to trivialize lack of Knock-downs or Netcode. This just seems like a glaring oversight.

The balancing factor is the weight. The hunch can still mount more because the chassis can carry more weight.

Umm... bigger 'mechs have more tons, can use more HS. If you're out of space for doubles, increase engine size for more 2.0 HS. A HBK and JR7 with the same engine rating and payload will give the HBK substantially more tonnage for accessories.

But yes, in CBT for a long time now, the number of slots is fixed for all chassis. Think of it as a result of the skeletal structure of 'mechs, or don't think about it at all.

Beeecaaaaaaaaause that's how the game's always been?

If you're comparing, say, the Jenner-D and the Hunchback 4SP, yes both could have the exact same loadout.

Here's the kicker, one has a LOT more armor and internal structure, one is faster and can have jump jets. Also, when collisions are re-introduced, the hunch can simply run into the jenner and knock it over.

Fair points, thanks. Just seemed odd at first. Nothing to see here; move along.
