The trial mechs are set up to encourage players to spend money to buy MC to bypass having to suck so much arse. Purposely putting in a horrible game experience for new coming players for a new franchise that no one under 30 has hear of is a BAD idea.

At the very least make it where there are Trial Mechs that are actually decent and once a player has hit 5M C-bills, he will only have access to the existing trial mechs.

the devs have stated repeatedly in interviews that they feel the trial/stock mechs are quite good, so its not gonna happen.

Except they're not good and we all know they're not good and we all know the reason they're not good: heat.

Do you have a specific problem, or is it that you just need more practice at the game?

It would be solved as simply as giving new users to pick from 1 class out of the 4 after doing some training runs in the weaght classes to get the feel of the class and play style.

Which is something similar to what I suggest on my thread on the a Robust Tutorial, which is linked to from that thread.

This game can't really have "Role" Warfare if majorty cant get a Assault class mech or Heavy.

It took a hole 2 hours of play to go from nothing to having first mech to alter. After 4 hours it was done being built and working on cbills for next mech. Granted my first mech is a commando but. It has a decent weapons loadout, a bigger then stock engine and a ECM. I have 4 hours logged. I do not see it as hard. Now the trial mechs did not seem that bad. You have to watch your heat. Trial mechs are plenty easy to get kills with. I mostly used the catphract and hunchback trials.
While running the cataphract i realized the ppc heat was killing me so i switched the stock weapons group and made ppc 4 and the 2nd set of lasers 2 so it was more natural to use them. Put both sets of ML on chain fire. Use weapon groups 1-2-3 while in combat if at low heat and long range take a shot or 2 with the ppc but not if you are going to be in combat soon as it takes a while for that heat to go down. Had a 2 kill 6 assist match with that one.
The hunchback I ran with its preset weapons groups. I did put weapons group 2 the one with 3 ML on chain fire. My best game in it is harder to pick as one was 2 kills 3 assist, while the other was 1 kill and 6 assist. Make sure to use the LRM's from range then when you run out of ammo or get pushed on go into combat with the ML but watch your heat.
I tried the trial jenner as well but I had hard time with heat management in it so I did not use it as much. I also tried the awsome but found when it is used the other team gets a built ECM atlas 90 percent of the time witch puts your team at a disadvantage so I would not suggest taking that one.
What I would say the most important part about trial mech use is you have to remember that kills, assist, cap assist are what get you the cbills. But having your team get the victory and still being in the match are the best ways to make cbills.

I am not sure what you are meaning here, since you suggest giving them the ability to pick a mech from from all 4 mech classes (light, medium, heavy, assault), unless I am not reading your suggestion right?

It's not the Mechs that are bad its the Heat Mechanics. An AWESOME 9M is a beast of a Mech that sucks ash in the MMO. SO it's not the Mech but the Game mechanics.

Just because the game is "Free to Play" doesn't mean the dev's are working for free....

The only reasons I didn't like the trial mechs is because you can't modify them, and you can't get skill perks with them... and as a new player I felt this made good enough sense. Myself, instead of buying MC, I just worked up some c-bills and bought a Commando on the second or third day and a Centurion a few days after that....yes they have the system set up to make you want to spend RL money, but the system does also allow to grind for c-bills at a not entirely terrible rate.

Other thoughts on this subject: I have been an EVE online player for the last 3 years, the sweet smell of tears coming from new players that can't hack the games learning curve warms my little black atomic cinder of a heart, thank you :) (Starter Mechs in MWO are a hell of a lot better than the Rookie Ships in EVE!)
