It is absolutely terrible on the River City Night Map.Worse I have seen in a game,to the Point where you can see almost as good without it but more clear

In fairness, pea soup is not nearly as bright and washed out from excessive contrast as night vision is.

Its already in-game. Called thermal vision.

I don't consider that as its hard to see if buildings at distance will block your shots

Ah, my experience with actual night vision devices is limited to a surplus Russian NVG. Looking through that thing bears a significant resemblance to how the night vision in this game.

i think it looks good, as well as thermal... its balanced... its hard to see, but not impossible... if they made it easier for people to see, it would defeat the purpose of fog, night, etc...

Gotta say, I'm calling Shennanigans on the contrast levels on this.

I swear it's like they didn't even order up some cheap nightvision goggles to see what it's really like.

A trip to ThinkGeek could have prevented this thread!

have used real 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation night vision and it appears as close to the real deal as could be, except you can see a bit further in game maybe

i still prefer thermal because blue against black is a lot better than green against green.

Well I imagine technologies a thousand years in the future would improve the night vision beyond an obsolete Russian NVG of today.

Maybe it's just that thermal's so good, but I find myself primarily using thermal even in daylight conditions on most maps.

Thermal effectively grants minor X-Ray vision, seeing through obscurement (foliage, snow haze). It's main downside is understanding depth and object complexity, which usually doesn't matter.

Nightvision offers some improvements over regular vision in some situations, but unless it's a messy brawl, Thermal still holds the advantage in telling you whether you have a clear shot.

Nightvision needs a more differentiation. Alternatively, thermal could be a little less of Superman mode, as it feels not unlike thermal and maybe magnetic rolled into one.

You'd also imagine that technologies a thousand years in the future would be able to make missiles that can't be outrun by ground-based targets. Hell, you'd imagine that a thousand years in the future we wouldn't even be sending people into battle, and it'd be all handled by robots.

Yes, MW nightvision is pretty close to the real deal (except you aren't blinded when you turn it on in the daytime). Anyone who says they've seen nightvision with better contrast/clarity was probably using an infrared camera/bulb combo (like a flashlight, but in infrared, the). This does allow better clarity of vision, true, but it also lights you up like a christmas tree to anyone using the same system. Which, I think you can agree, is not quite so good, yes?

Since ECM and now the Night map, I've been using Thermals almost non-stop.

Finally quit playing today because of the eye strain, lol. God I'm getting old.

I thought it was terrible until I updated my video card drivers; not sure if any of you guys have the same problem. Seems a lot brighter now, though I still prefer thermal for river city night since it makes enemies a lot easier to spot.

I can still remember turning on the light amplification in MW2 just for the hell of it, even though it wasn't useful for any missions. MWO's nightvision looks great by comparison, but it doesn't have the same utility value of thermal, even on the darkest map we have available.

The contrast is too high no the night vision. I can understand if buildings are blindingly bright if you use them in the daytime, but it really shouldn't be that case in the dark. Right now thermal is really the way to go.
