Well if you really want the raven i would keep running trials till you save up enough, going for a jenner or commando now is not going to get you into a raven faster, will make it slower.

That is correct.
I suggest saving up for a grinding mech and then using it to save up cbills and earn GXP for the mechs/modules you really want.
I use a basic hunchback to grind in with a AC20 and 2 MPL. Cheap and effective. never cost me more than 40k to repair/rearm. But really and standard engine medium/light non missle mech is a good mech to gind in.

Raven RVN-3L if it was not for the ECM I would say use Jenner JR7-D.
Raven RVN-4X has more options for weapons that will keep the other side guessing, but slower then Raven RVN-3L.
Raven POV higher and better then Jenner I think.
Use this for reference:

But Mech does need to suit your style of game and/or role you wish to play.

I'd actually suggest maxing the arms here, because a lot of your guns are there, and while strafing around like a little beak head chicken, your arms will eat a lot of the shots. Once you get a wing torn off here, you lose a lot of weapons(1 LA 2 RA, out of 5 total). My 3L has full armor everywhere except legs(6pts short of max), and that made a sizable difference in its brawling ability.
COM-2D(Commando)
RVN-3L(Raven)
CDA-3M(Cicada)
AS7-D-DC(Atlas)
With the 400 rounds played, I have usually only 14 armor on the right hand with lasers and 10 on the one with missile slot. I have lost my arms like 3-4 times.

It's worth saving up for if you want a good Light Mech with ECM. It's tougher than that baby Commando and it's a "Light" Mech, unlike the Cicada.(Picking Cicada means the enemy will get +1 Medium instead of +1 Light. You might not want that.) The downside is the cost. It comes bundled with a PoS XL Engine you probably don't want. They're forcing you to pay for this junk in full up front when all you're going to do with it is throw it right back to the store after you get it. There's no reason to slot an XL on a Raven. With DHS/Endo/Ferro, I hit 35/35 with only 2 crit slots free. Unless that number is still somehow 6+, no reason to use an XL. But it'll probably never be the case on a 35 or heavier Mech.(Maybe on the Commando?)
Another downside is that a lot of its weapons are in its arms. You don't really need this on a small Mech because the torso actually turns faster than the arms. You also get stripped a lot like a chicken when strafe fighting, so expect to lose those wings a lot. The Cicada doesn't have this problem because it clutters all the guns in the torsos, meaning the arms are just little shields of armor that can be freely lost without consequence. I find arms are increasingly useful as you get slower, but decreasingly useful as you get faster. If that's something you care about, you might want to take the Cicada instead.

the upside is the lag shield tat if you do it right and dont run across ppl that know hoe to work it youll never get damaged

Lag shield is "easy" to counter. You just need to aim in FRONT of the mech. You actually need to MISS to hit.
But the degraded connection issue, where people use external software / stress on their bandwidth to cause that teleporting & rubberbanding. That sucks hard.
