I mostly play in groups; one of the most annoying things I find with groups is that there always seems to be one guy that can't stop screwing around with his build between every match and holds up the whole group in the process.

Once or twice, not a problem, but between every match? I understand that a great part of the game is the tinkering, but I think it would be nice if players could tinker and test their mech builds solo in some sort of offline map. World War II Online had this and it was a lot of help when new equipment or options came out, so you could get familiar without having to learn in an actual battle.

The goal would be to get players to mostly do their tinkering outside of match play.

Yes, it should have a solo map. Perhaps not offline, but a solo map. In part for tinkering, but also to play out the Learn-To-Pilot-And-Shoot tutorial that the game really need.

I think it would be nice if a group could just drop together on a world of their choosing. Doesn't have to be solo but if could be if you chose.

A testing range would be great. Really great. But I have to admit that there's quite a lot of stuff I'd like to see in game first. All in good time I guess.

It's a distraction from more important stuff.

If you want to test a build, hit Launch.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. I have a real job and a family. When I come to play I want to play, I don't have time to F-around. While I like the idea of a solo training/testing area, it's not needed to remedy this problem. If you want to tinker with builds: PUG, end of story. Hit the launch button and go to town. Once you get a new build you like, come to group.

I feel like saying this sometimes, but it would be a bit rude, especially if I was the one invited to the group. What might be better is to be able to say, can't you do your tinkering and testing offline?

I can go either way. A trainer / testing area with a couple of bots for practice...

or if you just want to get stats on a mech...a benchmarking system that tells you heat output per shot, alpha strike, etc.

Though true, it would be nice to have a testing range.

I'd like to see a "solo pve combat sim" to test loadouts and get your weapon groups tuned.

Reference in Stackpole's novel where Kai takes the YLW out on the test course. 4 targets at range (represented avg l, m, h, a classes). Clear sky, no environmental aspects. Just someplace to taker her out and run, fire, ttk, heat, etc.....

Targets would be nice, especially if there were moving targets. But I'd be happy with just a place to test heat, speed, and maneuvering.

Make a rule with your group. Mechs should be pre-done and no tweaking between games.

We need practice rooms so that real leagues can be started and we can do inner clan trials/practice drops. It is slowing the expansion of the player base. If the Devs understood that then they would have released this ability by now. Hopefully it is something they just haven't gotten to yet and not an attempt to restrict all forms of community warfare other than their own as yet to appear solution.

If all the PGI manpower is consumed fixing bugs and developing the tiny bit of new content, fine. At least give the player base the ability to create a meta game ourselves so that we can help you grow the player base.

I'm hoping that a solo testing area will allow players to get the tinkering out of their system and such rules won't be necessary.
