The ECM debate seems centered on whether it should prevent you from hitting 'R' on a shielded target or not. I believe it is like this because it's meant to hide unit movement, however with target sharing, once I hit 'R' everyone on my team can do the same and see the location instantly. I can see how this hinders the (I believe) intended purpose of ECM.

Is it possible to shift the target sharing block from the spotting 'Mech to the shielded 'Mech? Leave everything else about ECM as is.

Examples:

Currently 2 'Mechs (1 & 2) 750M apart, but with a hill between them, cannot see each other to target. Scout (3) at 400M sees (2) and hits 'R'. Now (1) can see and target (2) on his/her HUD.

Give (2) ECM. (3) cannot hit 'R' on (2), unless under 200M and (1) will lose the shared target ability on (2) if less than 180M. Shifting the blockage from spotter to shielded would mean that at 400M (3) can hit 'R' on (2), but (1) will not receive HUD data. If (3) uses TAG on (2) then (2) is shared to (1)'s HUD as normal.

This would still allow ECM to generally hide units from the enemy while at the same time allow identification of enemy units. It should also appease the TT arguments as it mimics that aspect much more closely now. Additionally it would make all the other benefits of ECM (BAP/Artemis countering, increased lock on time) work beyond the current 20M window between can't target to lock-on and can target, but can't get lock-on anyway.

I understand that there are unimplemented aspects of this game that might make this impossible, or unnecessary. Thank you for taking the time to consider my suggestion.
