I really think TAG should be buffed to let you get missle lock on ECM mechs for streaks. You can already lock onto ECM'ers while you have TAG, but it does not allow you to get missile lock, which makes no sense to me. This would actually make TAG worth using

Absolutely agree. ECM is a passive NOOB TOY. At least with TAG u need to aim the damn thing. a TAGGED mech should be a TARGETABLE mech. Nuff said!

Suggest both of you actually read the dev post on how ECM/TAG work.

I suggest u actually play the game and form an opinion on how likely this is to achieve in practice. No wonder they want to extend the range of TAG. Tagging a hidden heavy or assault mech is easy. U try it on a fast moving mech and tell me how simple it is. TAG should work differently. It should have a longer timer on it that doesn't require u to hold a trained beam on the target. This will sort the light mechs out. The difference between ECM and TAG is that ECM is a noob tool requiring no skill to use whereas TAG is a pro tool. It is not a "rock to scissors" solution as the Devs suggest. Rock ALWAYS beats scissors.

I agree with your first 2 sentences, but disagree with the rest.

ECM is by no means "easy mode" if you're an intelligent pilot. To counter enemy mechs really well takes coordination and skill. Run in with ECM in active mode, switch to disrupt mode and fire off a volley against the enemy ECM mech. Maybe make sure to call in some LRM support. After doing some damage, or after LRMs start coming in on you, switch back to regular ECM mode to hide yourself and fire with lasers to damage ECM mech.

I've had battles with other ECM mechs that was feint and counter feint for 3 or 5 minutes as we each try to outmaneuver the other. Those were some of the most exciting matches I've played. Then again, that's when I was running with a group of 4, so I could call in for support where needed.

Some people may be using it like it's easy mode, but skilled players can take it to a whole new level of play.

As far as TAG is concerned, I've been rocking TAG since it was released. I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread for a scout mech. I say "scout" mech because I've been playing as a scout role, instead of a skirmisher or ambusher. I like being that scout/support mech. The eyes and ears of the group. I may not get the glory and all the kills, but I'm an integral part of the team. At least in my clan. PUGs.... well they don't always appreciate how awesome support roles can be. Oh well.

And I've killed ECM mechs without having ECM myself. TAG works in that regard. My 3 MLas Jenner has killed quite a few Commandos and Ravens and Cicadas.

Sometimes scissors seem to beat that rock. B)

JediMastaDJ, that's all fine and well... but I've dropped into matches (not playing with 8 man premades mind you) where six out of eight of the enemy team is running ECM... and one or two of our guys have it. Even IF they both went around together and in disrupt mode, they simply cannot do anything about it...

ECM right now needs a stacking penalty of some form....

Running TAG on a fast mech and using it on a fast mech is the equivalent of running it on a slower mech and using it on equally slow mechs. It's all relative. If u are slow TAG is not user-friendly compared to ECM. That's all I really want to say.

This is deffinitely a good idea. Many people here seem to be of the oppinion that this would make Streakapults completely OP again.... the thing however is that a streakuplt A1 Cat does not have any energy hardpoints at all. The streaker will either be forced to cooperate and coodinate with a second mech for every kill within the ECM effect, or be completely useless.

Any other Catapult will either have 2 or 4 SSRMs and therefore have too few missile slots to be effective or need to sacrifice half of their Energy slots (and therefore scarifice quite a bit of direct fire damage) to mount a Tag laser in their own torso which would further force them to 100% follow the movement fo their target. This isnt difficult against an Atlas... but you try focusing a circling comando which is moving at full speed for long enough that the SSRM lock is completed.

I used Tag with LRM before ECM, so its not realy benefiting for me and it is no real counter vs fast ECMs.

Try it for yourself and get crazy trying to get a long enough lasting lock,

You guys were complaining that TAG does not allow missile lock when it already does that. If you don't understand how then RTFM, all I was saying.

Now you're whining that tagging is hard. Different topic, we got enough ECM whine topics, try the sticky one. I have a self-tagging CPLT-C4 with 4xSSRM2 btw, and while I have no trouble using it, I do not agree either that the counter to ECM is either more ECM or gimping your combat effectiveness, it's bad game design. Different topic though.

The A1 can't equip it so why not i guess. Thats the only mech anybody complains about when it comes to missile use.

OP, a tagged mech CAN be locked as long as you are outside of the 180m jamming range.

I agree though, that the range of TAG could be improved
