Currently the ECM suit has all the shine. It does stuff beyond a simple buff. What I propose here is a suggestion to make the BAP feel like it is a useful piece of battle field gear with its sown role to play.
As it stands the BAP 'increases sensor range, speeds up targeting data and detects shut down mechs at close rage'. All for the price of 400c-bills, 1.5 tones + 2 critical slots of internal real estate, bargain. Compered to ECM however it doesn't become the most desirable piece of kit around and comparing it to the sensor modules, it only gives the ability to detect shut down mechs over what you can buy (all-be-it for 6 million c-bills).
What I think would be a good niche for the BAP would be enemy weapon detection. As it stands all mechs can detect an enemy mechs weapon load-out at the longest range that they pick the mech up from. Perhaps this should be shorted to around 400-500 meters without BAP and have the BAP do what all sensors are currently doing. In addition it could share this information to mechs within a set radius around it. This would be just the weapon load-out data, not the damage readout.
In addition you could have 2 modes: long range detection and detailed scanning. The former being what I have described above and the later being a comprehensive readout of what the mech is made up of. Engine type, AMS, BAP, command console, Ammo load locations/amounts.
so to clarify:
- seperate weapon data and mech detection ranges.
- have weapon data not appear until med-close range
- have BAP still do all of its current functions but also detect weapon data at longer ranges than standard sensors.
- have BAP broadcast target data to mechs close by.
Just an idea to help make this item have more tactical significance.
