Actually, I'm going to go with this game having **** optimization for dual cores. I run everything else fine. This game's optimization sucks. Nice assumption that I have no idea how to work a computer.
To everyone else that gave good answers... yeah, those are pretty good options. I've been running SRM's recently, but I can't hit lights with them. Other half of the time my ears get blown off before I get enough rounds out to be useful. Feels like they are made of paper.
You have no clue how to run a catapult without lock on and you blame PGI for bad optimization. Stop acting like you're the only one getting bad FPS and try another option besides asking what's the next FOTM. If you do... Well then don't act surprised when [REDACTED]

You have no clue how he or anyone else plays, nor is it any of your business. You obviously don't have the netcode/lag problem or you wouldn't be so superior about your ability; when leading and aiming are irrelevant because the server thinks that the mech in front of you is actually behind you, guided weapons are important, and don't give me that nonsense about compensating (for wildly varying lag?!) or that it will get fixed (been hearing this for months and we've only seen it get worse). They are legitimate weapons and were deliberately sidelined (or why didn't any Catapult variant get ECM?) because of all the light pilots complaining that there was ONE heavy mech that could actually kill them despite the lagshield.

I had no idea how he plays. Until he told me in a forum post, [REDACTED] I gave him an idea to which he responded with a "My ***** fine because it plays games with DIFFERENT engines fine". My ping is anywhere from 60 to 150 and runs 19fps in combat. Do lights still warp on my screen? [REDACTED]

Okay, maybe I came off a bit harsh. I just hate when the first thing that anyone around here assumes is that "lol, the game is fine, you're skills/hardware is terrible"
I can aim, I can do reaction time (Tourney level fighting game player). So can we just... forget that whole thing and carry on?
I've been running artemis on my SRM6's/4's with some moderate success. I'm just mostly annoyed at how stupidly hard it is to hit lights with ECM's. (And what's with the flashing hud on some of them? Where their targeting information is constantly blinking?)
I'm trying to figure out a way to get back into the 'run out, kick the light's *****' gamestyle that I enjoyed previously. I don't get how that's difficult to grasp. Does ECM counter Tag? If that's not the case, could I get my jenner buddy to run a tag so my SRM6's lock on? That would be awesome.

Shows what you know: Ping has nothing to do with the netcode lag issue.
As for network problems, are you shooting stationary mechs at point blank range and not doing any damage? Do your missiles occasionally pass through enemy mechs? Do you occasionally have problems maneuvering through tight spaces because you keep popping back to where you would have been if you had kept moving, but in a different direction?
Somehow, I think that you are confusing, "having to guess between 2-3 mech lengths to lead something to hit it," with, "getting shot in the back by the mech that you think is in front of you."

Tag does not work if your are within the disruption bubble. Your locks are fubar just the same.

QFT.
I don't wanna tag along with 'everyone else' though. I was looking forward to ECM until I noticed every damn Raven had it.
Think I'll just go back to League/PS2 until they finish getting the (BIG) bugs/kinks out of their game. Terribly balanced currently, lots of bugs (Eternally powered down, anyone?), half the weapons don't work right (Flamers still underpowered, after months.)
I think that's enough to justify my time elsewhere currently. Thanks to everyone who did put in legit strats and advice.

ECM counters TAG inside the bubble, and it's impossible to keep it on them outside of it unless they stand still for you. Forget TAG.
6xSRM6, some say Artemis but I really haven't noticed much improvement with it, and change your strategy a little; you can't hit a circling light. It's just not going to happen. You need to find them when they are circling someone else, and shoot when their circle has them running straight towards or away from you.
Don't sell the streaks, though; something is going to have to give with ECM, sooner or later, and even before that, you might buy an ECM mech with missile hardpoints, yourself....

On a side and final note, my machine runs games that look 20X better than this hunk of junk (Look into Firefall) with nearly maxed settings.
We're not mad at you, we're mad at the developers making an already difficult task nearly impossible (Killing lights without using a light). The fact that you are sticking up for them in this situation is just... mind boggling. To us. Your mileage obviously varies. However, this is still 'open beta' (Lol) and things are going to get changed.
I REALLY want to like this game. I love giant robots and explosions. It's just not up to par -yet-.

I don't want to tag along with the next big 'flava'. I like my Catapult. It's always been my mech when I couldn't get ahold of a Madcat.
