Tag Useless Against Light Mechs?

While I have little problems to TAG an Atlas it seems impossible to TAG a Commando or Raven running ECM.
And, no, it's not because of aiming because the lasers I fire hit and deal damage to these mechs while TAG does nothing.
I've tried LRMs and SSRMs and never even got a chance of a target lock on one of them. Even when they were standing still.
Someone else having the same issues?

You won't be able to keep something running 140kph at a distance of 200m.

SSRMs can fire within 180 meters, though (they have no minimum range, is what I mean, not that they work within 180 meters of ECM).
TAG should never have been affected by ECM anyways. Its just another senseless tack onto the ECM's already huge list of abilities.
Edited for clarity.

Anyway, I can assure you that from a light piot's perspective the TAG/LRM combo is just tidiculously effective! I'm seeing more and more thin red beams these days, either people self-TAGging or working cooperatively. I can't tell you how many times I've been splashed all over the terrain by LRMs recently while pugging!
Some people, obviously, have figured out how to kill ECM equipped lights quite effectively (and quickly). I run a COM-2D and I say to these teams and players: Great job adapting to changing circumstances and properly using the tools given! Nothing fills me with more fear than to see a TAG equipped mech.
I can't address specifically what you are doing, but from a light driver's perspective you're going in the right direction!

Anyone who says TAG is useless is wrong and clearly unskilled in many different ways...

Sneak an ECM scout behind enemy line and then use the 750m TAG to light them up and rain LRMs on their face. The scouts ECM will make him difficult to spot so it should provide some real fun dynamics to the game.
I look forward to a lot of crying in a few days about how OP ECM + TAG is.

No it wont. There is no reason for scouts to use TAG when LRM boats can TAG their own targets because it has a 750m range. By increasing the range of TAG, theyve eliminated the need for scouts to TAG for LRM boats.

For what it's worth: so effective is a scout, with or without ECM, equipped with a TAG, working cooperatively with LRM-carrying mech, that I've replaced my medium laser on my COM-2D with TAG (did this last night.) Will replace one mlaser on my other Coms as well.
As of last night I start every pug fight by informing my team that I'm "ECM, TAG scout" and asking "any missiles?"
Only ran a few matches so far, but we'll see what happens when I team drop tonight.
Cheers!

Good luck getting TAG on those enemies behind that hill over there without a scout+TAG. The new 750m range simply makes TAG useful again. What they should really do is also remove it from the list of equipment affected by ECM so that it can be used within 180m of an ECM Mech.

If the intention is for TAG not to work within 180 meters than why even have it. Anyone who says to TAG targets for your missiles that are ECMd should be slapped. You shouldn't have to self TAG from a distance for it to work. Scouts should be able to TAG for you.

Same laser, yes... but there is an electronic system that controls the TAG laser to begin with.
With your kind of debate, ECM would be voided out anyway, due to everyone wrapping their mechs in anti-ECM protective material.

IF
IF You are in 180m of ECM bubble your tag does not relay info to team members...just like all other data. Missiles are not laser guided rather traced from the "taggers" tech to the ones firing.
TAGGED TARGETS IN ECM SPHERE DO NOT GET 30% bonus...but can have missiles locked on. If not in sphere then a bonus is applied.
