Since ECM (ECM/ECCM) is a powerful tool (maybe too powerful, but I don't think so), why not have multiple ECM ratings that change the range of how the mech disrupts electronics (range changes).

here is a basic idea of what I had in mind (ranges and costs can be changed, yadda yadda)

Simple ECM, disrupts (but doesn't counter) within 90 meters, costs 400k c-bills and weighs 1.5 tons.

Intermediate ECM disrupts and counters within 100 meters, costs 800k c-bills and weighs 2 tons and more critical than the simple. This would an upgrade for the added ECCM rather than a range increase.

Advanced ECM disrupts and counters at the maximum range (~180 meters) costs 2 million c-bills and weighs 3 tons and taking up many crits (obviously limiting the ability to have an advanced ECM in a commando, but not so much in a raven).

I like that only certain mechs can have ECMs, and think that ECM gives MWO an interesting mechanic and depth to gameplay.

While I still think the basic disrupt mode knocking out LRM locks for a mech standing in the open is a bit much, I'm at least positive on the idea of splitting up the functions of the ECM. Not so much on combined disrupt counter but hey, it's a start.

No, changing the weight of items changes how they fit into mechs in canon, since all mechs are based on tt designs.
