I run:
3x SSRM w/ 3 tons of ammo
1x TAG
XL150 engine
ES
minimum heatsinks

I could go with DHS and raise the engine but this keeps the build cheap and I do well with it. Average of 1.5 kills a game and 300 damage.

So are you trying to kill 8 mechs with 3 tons of ammo 5 times over???

but does beefing up armor on the individual mech parts affect firepower rating??

I've run out of ammo in one game and am currently sitting at 33k experience without premium. Statistically insignificant chance of it happening. I die far more often to pilot error or the enemy simply outplaying me.
