This should go under the category of graphics issues. My apologies if there is a thread for this already.
So I started a match yesterday and everything appeared normal.
Less than a minute into the match, my HUD appears to go into the shutdown graphics cycle... screen flash, cockpit graphics disappears, Heat Exceeded Message, and then nothing on the screen but the terrain just as if I was shutdown (except I was not).
No cockpit, no radar, no team score, no target reticule, and most importantly no indicators telling me who was friendly and who was not. I could still move normally.
Keep in mind, this happened w/o firing a shot.
The worst part was that this kept happening in a continuous cycle. I wanted to reach into my cockpit and bang on the electronics.
Of course I end up defending the base against several of the enemy. I could not tell where my teammates were or how many were still alive.
As I circled inside the base perimeter, a Jenner jumped out in front of me, and I let loose with all six medium lasers. Ahh team kill! Sorry! I should not have fired without a HUD. If I knew the guys name I'd send him a personal apology.
Anyone else see this issue?
After the match, I restarted the game client and did not experience it again.
I think I'm going to look into the free version of Fraps and start recording all my matches.

Right Shift + F11 will toggle your HUD. Press that twice to cycle it.
I've never experienced exactly your issue, but I've had my HUD stay in "shutdown" mode after an overheat, and various other glitches. Sometimes cycling the HUD helps. Alternately, power cycling the entire 'mech sometimes helps, as does tabbing out of the game.
If it happens again, try to get screenshots or video and email it to support with as much data about it as you can.

No HUD, yellow HUD, overheat sticking ... newest one was the mini display would keep rotating randomly and not have a fixed map "North" or whatever. Sometimes shift 11 or powering up and down clears issues like overheat display getting stuck. Some people claim starting task manager has cleared yellow HUD. No matter what these bugs do need to get reported to support, documented, and fixed.
That said there are these numerous polls to which this one is applicable for your issue:

Ahh... Right Shift-F11. Thank you. I'll try that if it happens again.
I believe I was typing Alt-F11 to no avail. I also tried powering down and back up, which did not help.
If it happens again I'll be recording the match so I should have something to present as evidence.
